The Mercury 3 or Orion2 can be used as a Stand-alone throttle by wire controllers. They can be used for single acting throttles or dual acting throttles. Dual acting throttles require positive and negative drivers to form an H-bridge. This will allow current to change direction to open or close the butterfly. Dual throttles have a rest position that is partially open to act as limp mode power during electronic failure.

These standalone units and can operate without the engine running. It may also be used with other management systems. There are protection diodes and resistors wired into the harness and it also has its own relay to power the throttle. These modifications is to ensure lockout of the power to the throttle during malfunction of the sensors, harness or electronics. Do not power the unit via another source by bypassing the relay etc.

The Mercury 3 Control Unit is designed to be a cost effective replacement for high tech Engine Control Units (ECU) and Transmission Control Units (TCU). It uses unique and easy features which are easy to install and tune. It is designed with the novice and professional installer in mind.

It can be used for many applications such as racing engines, vehicle conversions, custom built vehicles, replacement parts for production vehicles etc. It is a compact reliable system. The Mercury 3 unit is designed to connect directly to most sensors and drive units that is found on engines and transmissions. No need to modify them. It consist of the latest in high speed micro controllers with surface mount technology. These units are machine soldered to minimize human error.

The Mercury 3 cover features like Lambda control, idle control, launch control, fuel pressure control, cam control, line pressure control, tiptronic gear control, stepper motor control and lots more. It has 8 positive drivers that can be converted to 12 coil igniter drivers for V12 engines. It has 8 negative injector drivers that can do full sequential injection for V8 engines and semi-sequential for V12 engines. 4 Negative drivers for GP outputs, rpm output, relay and electronic relay outputs. These drivers are ranging from 3.5 Amp to 6 Amp.

There are 9 analog input signals to measure water, air or oil temperature, throttle position, manifold pressure, lambda, fuel pressure, altitude etc. Then there are 4 trigger inputs to measure crank, cam & prop shaft angles.

The Spitronics Venus3 Signal Converter unit

This product will generate crank and cam signal patterns for different engines. This is used mostly in conversions where another engine type is fitted in a car, and the original ECU requires the crank and cam sensors to keep the body computer or dash board alive, so that other functions are still operating. This is all done by electronics and there is no need to fit trigger wheels on the crank and cam plates. This product can be used with any management system.

The signal converter uses the Venus3 hardware with reduced components. The firmware can also be loaded in a Venus3 ECU in Basic class or higher. Note that the reduced board will also be basic class although it will be priced lower due to reduced components. It can work with any combination RPM signal and generate a signal pattern for specific engine signals. Example, if you connect a 36-1 Ford signal to the signal converter it can generate a Jeep 6Cyl crank and cam signal pattern for their original ECU. This will then make the Tacho gauge working correctly.

The signal converter can except a magnetic or hall signal as an input. It will generate 2 open collector signals for the crank and cam signal. Should you require a square wave signal you may add a 1K pullup resistor to the output. I you require a magnetic output signal you may require a Capacitor and 2x1K pullup resistors per output. See the drawings for the modifications further below.
