Mbokodo Butchery started in 1993 supplying cut meat and whole quarters to the Bulawayo community at affordable prices while other suppliers were taking advantage of the monopoly in place at the time. It took careful planning over some years to incorporate features that would lend itself into developing the structures into becoming an export facility for beef. It is the second largest Government in
spected meat facility in Zimbabwe serving Matabeleland, Midlands and Mashonaland Provinces. Over twenty thousand head of cattle are slaughtered annually. Fifty percent of these are our home grass and pen-fed animals, while the other fifty percent are cattle that originate from commercial, small-scale and communal cattle producers. We have a fleet of four 18ton refrigerated meat trucks and a 3ton truck fitted with a chiller box. With a dedicated staff, be it drivers, cutters, sales and administration staff, it is Mbokodo’s goal to make a profit and at the same time give our customers fair prices and the best possible products and service available in Zimbabwe
As the saying goes:
“Give them great product and great service and you will always have a successful business.”
In the abattoir we have a Government appointed Animal Health Inspector, Meat Grader and Meat Inspector in attendance for every slaughter. They carry out ante-mortem and post-mortem inspections. This ensures that, in the rare event, animals that may be diseased are filtered out before further contamination can take place. It also ensures that post slaughter infections in the meat and or offal are realised before the meat is sold on. The Government controlled grading system ensures that our beef is classified on system that we would expect to be nationally consistent for the benefit of customers. We abide by the legal requirement that all carcasses are hung and the meat chilled for at least twenty four hours before sale or distribution. When you deal with Mbokodo Butchery or Circle ‘Y’ Abattoir you are dealing with experts who can help your business grow. We purchase cattle from many different sources with the sole purpose of either direct slaughtering, fattening and or finishing off in feedlot pens for slaughter.
