Sibanye-Stillwater has established itself as one of the world’s largest primary producers of platinum, palladium, and rhodium and is also a top tier gold producer. Keeping communities safe

Sibanye-Stillwater recently donated community patrolling equipment, including LED torches, protective vests and self-defense pepper sprays to the Myburgh Foundation in Toekomsrus, Rand West City.

The equipment will enhance the effectiveness and visibility of community patrols while promoting greater collaboration between residents, the Myburgh Foundation and other community safety stakeholders. Foundation members also received training on the correct use of the equipment, as well as accountability and asset management measures to support its responsible use and long-term sustainability.

Initiatives such as these strengthen structured community patrol activities, improve coordination among local safety partners and build the capacity of community-based safety programmes to respond to local challenges.

Inspiring the next generation of mining talent

Sibanye-Stillwater recently hosted a Grade 12 Career Awareness Day at the Rustenburg Recreational Club for learners from Tshukudu High School, Fields College and Meriti Secondary School. Learners were exposed to available career paths within the mining sector, especially in engineering disciplines such as mining, electrical and chemical engineering, as well as geology. They also received practical support on how to apply for the company’s latest bursary opportunities through our online portal at

Sibanye-Stillwater also operates a math and physical science programme, which provides teaching and after-school support in these subjects to grades 10 to 12 learners in 34 schools across our operations, to ensure learners are empowered to pursue careers in the mining sector.

Championing research and local mineral beneficiation

Sibanye-Stillwater recently hosted Phumzile Mgcina, deputy minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, at our Precious Metals Refinery (PMR) operation in Brakpan.

During the visit, we showcased insights into our refining processes and our research and development activities. These include our recent partnership with the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation to advance the development of a radioactive palladium isotope derived from rhodium for use in targeted radionuclide therapy, which can treat localised tumours, including prostate cancer.

At Sibanye-Stillwater, we implement a stakeholder-centric approach to business, with the purpose of creating a better future for people and planet through our metals. We are also committed to South Africa’s beneficiation strategy.

My Tree, My Oxygen, Plant Yours Today

Sibanye-Stillwater employees, together with The North West Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) and the Department of Health recently planted trees at Mfidikwe and Boitekong clinics in Rustenburg, and Majakaneng and Marikana clinics in Marikana. We also planted trees at Thuto-Kitso Engineering School of Specialisation and Kokosi Primary School in Fochville, and donated trees to a further five schools in the West Rand, in partnership with the Department of Education Gauteng West District.

This is in support of the Presidential One Billion Trees Programme, championed by Deputy Minister Bernice Swarts and led by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. The programme aims to plant one billion trees across South Africa over five years to combat climate change, protect biodiversity, and strengthen environmental and food security.

Through this initiative, the South African Environmental team has committed to donating and planting 250 trees at clinics and schools across our operations in the North West, Free State, Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
