Youth in Tech: Equipping local businesses for the digital economy

The Sibanye-Stillwater Youth in Tech Programme, in partnership with Phakamani Impact Capital, is a six-month skills development opportunity for individuals under the age of 35, employed by qualifying small businesses in Sibanye-Stillwater’s host communities across Marikana, Rustenburg, the West Rand and Beatrix. Over 120 individuals will be trained in:
• Data analytics
• Data engineering
• Cybersecurity; or
• Artificial intelligence

Sibanye-Stillwater, in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Health, South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA), Reedville Clinic, Leratong Community Services, University of the Witwatersrand’s Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (WITS RHI), Shout-it-Now, Lancet Laboratories and Dr Mokone Optometrists, recently held a health and wellness day at the Precious Metals Refinery sports grounds in Brakpan, Gauteng.

Nearly 250 community members accessed a wide range of free health screening services, including eye tests, TB, blood pressure, diabetes and prostate and breast cancer screenings, HIV testing and counselling, mental health and gender-based violence support services.

The initiative formed part of our efforts to support the health and wellbeing of the communities in which we live and work.

We are incredibly proud to wish Cornel Metcalfe, one of our colleagues in the ICT team in South Africa, the best of luck as she takes on the HOKA Ultra-trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) 100M in Chamonix, France, on 28 August 2026!

This marks Cornel's first appearance at one of the world's most iconic trail-running events - another remarkable milestone in an already outstanding sporting career.

Cornel is the only woman in South Africa to have completed more than 50 official 100-mile races, with 57 finishes and 43 podium finishes to her name. She has also completed the Comrades Marathon 19 times and holds the South African women's 72-hour (340km) and 6-Day (640.5km) ultra-running records.

For Cornel, the UTMB is far more than crossing the finish line. It is about testing limits, embracing challenges, and inspiring others to pursue seemingly impossible goals.

Go Cornel, we are cheering you on every step of the way!

A day for family and fun at the Marikana Youth Centre

This past weekend, Afrika Tikkun, one of Sibanye-Stillwater’s community development partners, hosted a vibrant Family Fun Day that united learners and members of surrounding communities for a day of connection, camaraderie and healthy competition.

Participants took part in a variety of sporting activities, including soccer, netball, chess, and running, providing opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities to showcase their skills, build confidence, and foster meaningful connections. The event created a positive and inclusive atmosphere where teamwork, sportsmanship, and mutual support took centre stage.

Beyond the games and friendly competition, the Family Fun Day highlighted the importance of community engagement and youth development, strengthening relationships and creating lasting memories for everyone involved. Events like these demonstrate the power of sport to bring people together, inspire collaboration, and promote a strong sense of belonging.
