Engine oil level tips you should be aware of. When checking your vehicle's oil level, here are a few pointers to make it easier. I'm going to assume you know how to get to the dipstick, (no giggling) for some this can also represent a challenge. Remove dipstick and examine the lower end, this is always marked with a max and min mark, remember between these two marks is regarded as optimum. The norm is that between the min and max marks requires about a liter or two cans of oil. Oil should always be checked cold however when travelling always wait a min of 5 – 10 minutes before checking. This allows oil enough time to seep back into oil pan or sump. Garage attendants often check level immediately once you stop, this gives a false or lower than true reading (also helps them sell additional forecourt products). While you are getting your hands dirty, it’s a good time to diagnose the condition of your engine, just joking, but while you are there check the colour, smell and texture of the oil. Thick and clear (good), milky means water in the oil (not good), smells burnt (not good) and dark and runny (not good). There are other signs which tell you that oil change is required such as dark stains on the dipstick that are difficult to wipe off. So now you can check engine oil level with confidence, enjoy.
