Sasol Salt Rock Welcomes Lyra and Her Family for Awareness and Community Support
Sasol Salt Rock had the honour of welcoming little Lyra and her family to the station as part of the Walk for Lyra awareness journey, a heartfelt campaign created to raise awareness for Tyrosinemia Type 1 and the challenges faced by Lyra and her loved ones.
Lyra is a brave 3-year-old girl living with Tyrosinemia Type 1, a rare and life-threatening condition that affects her body’s ability to process certain proteins. Her journey requires strength, a strict low-protein diet, and ongoing medical support.
Through the Walk for Lyra campaign, Lyra’s story has travelled across communities, covering more than 800 kilometres from Jan Kempdorp to Durban. Every step carries a message of love, awareness, and hope for Lyra’s future.
During her visit to Sasol Salt Rock, Lyra and her family met members of the Salt Rock community, shared her story, and connected with customers and staff who stopped to listen, support, and learn more about cause. It was a day filled with meaningful conversations, warm smiles, and genuine community spirit.
The visit created a powerful reminder that awareness starts with people. By taking the time to listen, ask questions, share Lyra’s story, and show support, the Salt Rock community became part of something bigger than a single day.
Sasol Salt Rock was proud to provide a welcoming space for Lyra, her family, and the Walk for Lyra journey. The station became more than just a stop along the route — it became a place where compassion, awareness, and community came together.
To help make their journey home easier, Sasol Salt Rock filled their vehicle before they left, while Steers kindly provided padkos for the road. It was a simple but heartfelt gesture of care.
For Lyra’s family, this campaign is about more than distance. It is about creating understanding around Tyrosinemia Type 1, highlighting the need for access to specialised formula, medication, and medical care, while reminding people that behind every rare condition is a real child, a real family, and a real fight.
Every step counts. Every conversation matters. Every share helps create real awareness.
