🇿🇦 WÊRELKAMPIOENE UIT SWELLENDAM! 🏆🌊
Wat ’n uitsonderlike prestasie vir Swellendam en Suid-Afrika.
Na ’n veeleisende week van wedrenne in uitdagende weers- en watertoestande, is Franco Cilliers en Roelof du Plessis as Wêreldkampioene in die Standaardklas by die 2026 Internasionale Opblaasbootkampioenskap gekroon.
Hulle het deurgaans ’n uitstekende vertoning gelewer, die Standaardklas oorheers en die wêreldtitel met trots na Suid-Afrika — en na Swellendam — gebring.
Wat hierdie prestasie nog meer besonders maak, is dat mede-Swellendammers Jonathan Badenhorst en Franco Munnik tweede algeheel geëindig het, wat aan ons dorp ’n besondere eerste en tweede plek op die internasionale verhoog besorg.
Toe ek hierdie vier manne voor die kampioenskap ontmoet het, het ons hulle sterkte toegewens terwyl hulle voorberei het om ons land in die Groen en Goud te verteenwoordig. Vandag keer hulle terug nadat hulle veel meer gedoen het as bloot deelgeneem — hulle het geskiedenis gemaak en ’n hele gemeenskap trots gemaak.
Hul sukses getuig van moed, dissipline, spanwerk en ontelbare ure se voorbereiding, veral tydens ’n week waarin beide die weer en die water elke deelnemer behoorlik op die proef gestel het.
’n Spesiale woord van erkenning gaan ook aan die borge en ondernemings wat hierdie spanne ondersteun het. Onder hulle is Infanta Inflatables, ’n trotse Swellendam-gebaseerde onderneming wie se bote en kundigheid ver buite Suid-Afrika se grense erken word. Mede-eienaar Kevin Castleman het ook as spanbestuurder van Span Suid-Afrika tydens die kampioenskap opgetree.
Infanta Inflatables is ’n uitstekende voorbeeld van die gehalte-ondernemings wat binne die Swellendam munisipale gebied bedryf word — ondernemings wat plaaslike ekonomiese aktiwiteit skep en terselfdertyd Swellendam se naam en reputasie op internasionale markte uitdra.
Baie geluk aan Franco Cilliers en Roelof du Plessis — Wêreldkampioene, en aan Jonathan Badenhorst en Franco Munnik met hul uitstekende tweede plek algeheel.
Namens die Swellendam Munisipaliteit en al ons inwoners, dankie dat julle Suid-Afrika en ons dorp met soveel onderskeiding verteenwoordig het.

🇿🇦 WORLD CHAMPIONS FROM SWELLENDAM! 🏆🌊
What an extraordinary achievement for Swellendam and South Africa.
Following a demanding week of racing in challenging weather and water conditions, Franco Cilliers and Roelof du Plessis have been crowned World Champions in the Standard Class at the 2026 International Inflatable Powerboat Championship.
They delivered an outstanding performance throughout the competition, dominating the Standard Class and proudly bringing the title home to South Africa — and to Swellendam.
Adding to this remarkable result, fellow Swellendam competitors Jonathan Badenhorst and Franco Munnik finished second overall, giving our town an exceptional first and second place on the international stage.
When I met these four men before the championship, we wished them well as they prepared to represent our country in the Green and Gold. Today, they return having done far more than compete — they have made history and made an entire community proud.
Their success reflects courage, discipline, teamwork and countless hours of preparation, particularly through a week in which both the weather and water tested every competitor.
A special word of recognition must also go to the sponsors and businesses that supported these teams. Among them is Infanta Inflatables, a proudly Swellendam-based company whose boats and expertise are recognised well beyond South Africa’s borders. Its co-owner, Kevin Castleman, also served as Team South Africa’s team manager during the championship.
Infanta Inflatables is a fine example of the quality businesses operating within the Swellendam municipal area — businesses that create local economic activity while carrying Swellendam’s name and reputation into international markets.
Congratulations to Franco Cilliers and Roelof du Plessis — World Champions, and to Jonathan Badenhorst and Franco Munnik on their outstanding second-place finish.
