Do You Know the RIGHT Way to Change Gears? 🤔

Changing gears in a manual car may look easy, but using the clutch, gear lever, and accelerator correctly is important for smooth driving.

First, when you need to change gear, release the accelerator and press the clutch pedal fully down. This temporarily separates the engine from the transmission and allows you to change gears smoothly.

Next, move the gear lever into the gear you need. The gear pattern shown in the picture is a common manual-transmission layout, but the exact pattern can vary between cars.

After selecting the gear, release the clutch gradually while gently applying the accelerator. Releasing the clutch too quickly can make the car jerk or even stall, especially when starting from a stop.

When moving away from a complete stop, 1st gear is normally used. As the vehicle gains speed, you can shift through the higher gears when appropriate. When slowing down, choose a gear that suits the vehicle's speed and road conditions.

Remember: Don't keep your foot resting on the clutch pedal while driving. It can cause unnecessary clutch wear.

The most important thing is to learn the behavior of your specific car and follow its owner's manual.
