Did you know that under-inflated tyres make your engine work harder to move the car, and wear unevenly in the process?

Tyre pressure drops naturally over time, and temperature changes can affect it too. It is one of those things that is easy to forget about until something feels off.

What to know:

- Check your pressure once a month, when the tyres are cold
- Use the pressure listed on the sticker inside your door frame or in your manual, not the number on the tyre itself
- Do not forget the spare
- Most petrol stations have air available, and it takes two minutes

Your new car has a service schedule set by the manufacturer. You will find it in your service booklet or digital schedule. The first service is where it starts, and it usually covers:

- Oil and filter change
- Fluid levels checked and topped up
- Brakes, tyres and lights inspected
- The service recorded, so your car has a complete history from day one

Keep every service record. It protects your car's value and gives your mechanic a full picture of what has been done.

Petrol is expensive, and it may be about to get more expensive.

But not everything you spend at the pump comes down to the price. Sometimes it is your car using more fuel than it needs to.

Four common culprits:

- Worn spark plugs
- A clogged air filter
- Dirty fuel injectors
- Under-inflated tyres

Each one can quietly increase how much fuel your car uses, and none of them announces itself with a warning light.

Your engine generates enormous heat every time you drive. Your radiator is what keeps that heat from becoming a serious problem.

It works by circulating coolant through the engine, absorbing heat, and releasing it through the radiator core as air passes through.

Signs your radiator needs attention:

Temperature gauge creeping higher than normal

Visible coolant leaks under the car

Coolant that looks rusty, discoloured or has visible debris in it

Steam or an overheating smell, pull over immediately if this happens

A radiator that is not functioning properly can lead to overheating, and overheating can cause serious, expensive engine damage in a very short space of time.

If you drive a manual and the clutch pedal has started to feel different (sitting higher than it used to be, or the car struggling to grip in higher gears) your clutch is likely wearing out.

Signs your clutch needs attention:

Sitting noticeably higher than before

Engine revving without a matching increase in speed, this is clutch slip

A burning smell, especially after hill starts or heavy traffic

Difficulty shifting gears smoothly

Clutches wear gradually, which makes the change easy to miss until it becomes a real problem usually at the least convenient moment.

If something feels different, bring it in and we will assess it properly.

Your handbrake (or parking brake) is a fully independent braking system (separate from your main brakes) designed specifically to hold your car stationary and to act as a backup if your primary brakes ever fail.

Signs your handbrake needs attention:

Lever pulls up much higher than it used to before engaging
