Unfortunately it's become the common norm in the majority licensing departments and a completely unregulated driving school industry. Those that aren't corrupt find themselves tip toeing around the very few licensing departments there are left to go to in hopes of a fair test. The examiners aren't making money off you so you really are 'in the way'. Very frustrating witnessing well trained drivers being failed/nailed while incompetent individuals enter our roads. Examiners do as they please with no real processes in place to argue against it.
Alas an article here and there but nothing significant being done to change things 😕

Some driving schools in Gauteng are offering guaranteed pass for learner and driving test and ins certain instances, the applicant does not even have to go through the assessment at all.

Honestly, what is the point of these card licences and then having to renew every 5 years? It's quite clear 'this system' has done nothing to improve road safety in South Africa. In fact the roads were alot safer before they were implemented. Beside the struggle to et a booking, one must then spend hours queuing to go through the processes run by government workers who are on power trips and doing you a favour. And now with loadshedding in the equation??
Honesty there is no common sense in this regard, instead of allocating all this 'man power' into this pointless exercise, why not allocate it into dealing with the huge amount of corruption going through the system, the main cause of the road carnage. The majority of the new drivers entering South African roads now days are clueless only having the basic driving skills to drive left around a block. The majority of these people calling themselves 'Driving Instructors' have no regard for the rules of the road themselves nor the people they 'teach' its an easy cash cow. And then the 'Licencing officials' who are allowing it all to happen and of course it goes right to the top. The government is blatantly taking us for a ride and knowingly allowing for this road carnage to continue at an extremely hard cost to its citizens.

Civil society group Afriforum has announced legal action against the requirement to renew driving license cards every five years in South Africa.

That's very nice but the biggest problem is the fingerprint and eye tests we are forced to do.
People don't end up queuing for hours because of having to make a payment..
So in essence nothing has been done to resolve the real issue 🤦🏻‍♀️

The K53 system is good, everything taught is of relevance.
Proper instruction = Well trained defensive drivers entering our roads.
Unfortunately that's a rarity in South Africa.

WTF it should read : 'Deadline approaches for Government to do something about License renewals'.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has urged motorists to renew their licences before the end of August grace period deadline.

There are so many alternatives to alleviate this unnecessary burden that has been placed on us by government. It's not just the expense of having to renew one's license. For many its the cost of transportation and having to take hours off work only too often being turned away because 'The Systems Down' or the Eye Test was 'Failed' (often as it wasn't explained properly).

This kind of ineptitude has become the standardnorm sadly with an extremely hard cost to its citizens.

The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) says that the department of transport needs to introduce wholesale changes to fix South Africa’s chaotic driver’s license renewal process.
