The insides of a water damaged ECU. This particularly board is from a Daihatsu Gran Max. The ECU is located under an air vent and did not take well to a spilled bottle of water placed on the dashboard. Unfortunately we were not able to rescue it. A second hand unit was sourced from a scrapyard, connected and mated to the other modules using a Launch X431 scanner.

Enter x1 Chevrolet Aveo with a coolant leak. Pressure test lead us to suspect the rubber hose attached to the rear of the water pump behind the engine block. Unfortunately it turned out to be a rotten factory press fitted pipe which cannot be obtained. This meant removing the motor and having a custom part made to suit. First pic shows rotten pipe followed by the second pic showing the rotten pipe removed and the aperture cleaned for measuring purposes. Picture 3 shows steel bar being machined into a custom pipe. Picture 4 - the finished pipe. Picture 5 shows the pipe pressed into the engine block with engine ready to be lowered back into a vehicle.

Just because a scan tool identifies a sensor as being at fault, does not mean the sensor is damaged. Test the sensor with a scope before replacing. Often the culprit is the connection to the sensor.

The OBDII fault code P0401 means that the engine computer has detected that the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system flow is insufficient. This is caused by hot exhaust gas coming into contact with cool intake manifold air and condensing into this muck. The first pic shows the intake manifold aperture where the exhaust gas is meant to re-enter the combustion cycle. The second pic is the EGR valve,(now partially cleaned up), responsible for setting the code. A thorough cleaning and system all happy again!

The culprit of many a Ford Bantam gearbox leak. It would appear that the designers decided the transmission would benefit from a breather as an after thought as this plastic pipe is inserted through the top gearbox mounting into the gearbox. Yes you guessed it - any shift / wear on the mounting and the plastic tube breaks spewing gearbox oil everywhere.

The difference between a new and a worn cam shaft lobe. A worn lobe reduces the amount of lift acting upon a valve creating breathing difficulty for the motor.
