Our latest arrival from the Black Series stable is arguably the most iconic, the SL65.
•
Unlike every other black series this was and is the only car to feature a V12 instead of a V8. It was also the first turbocharged Black Series. The M275 is an iconic engine and in Black Series format produced so much torque that engineers kept breaking the newer 8 speed gearbox. So Black Series engineers had to revert to a stronger 5 speed gearbox and electronically limit the torque to a very disappointing 1000nm. The base engine was also used in the Pagani Huayra.

The SL65 Black Series also went on a significant diet, shedding 250kg over the standard SL65 despite being significantly wider thanks to extensive use of carbon fibre and the deletion of the ABC suspension.

Our example has enjoyed a very subdue life, with only two caretakers and just over 5000km showing on the odometer. The original tyres are safely preserved while new tyres are fitted to the vehicle.

This particular example began life as a pristine donor car before undergoing a meticulous transformation over several months. The result? A 911 reimagined for the wild, engineered for adventure, and crafted with precision. In excess of R1 000 000 was spent on the conversion. Beneath its purposeful stance lies serious capability: a 3 mm steel bash plate and a 5 mm polyurethane-coated aluminium rear shield protect vital components, while chunky all-terrain tires and a Reiger suspension system with 200 mm of travel ensure unstoppable off road performance. Power comes from a robust flat-six engine, breathing through custom headers and a decatted exhaust for a raw, responsive sound and feel. Other optional extras include the roof rack, ducktail spoiler and 17” wheels.

Today we get to announce the sale of one of, if not the most significant Mercedes-Benz models in the modern area, The SLS AMG Black series.
•
The SLS AMG was built as a homage to the original 300SL Gullwing, it took Mercedes Benz 56 years to reintroduce the iconic gullwing doors onto another production vehicle and it is highly unlikely we will ever see another petrol powered only Gullwing in our lifetime.
•
The Black Series variant was an entirely different machine compared to the standard SLS AMG. First of all it went on a diet and shed around 70Kg from the standard variant through extensive use of carbon fibre, a titanium exhaust, carbon ceramic brakes, lithium ion battery and one piece bucket seats. Power was increased to a healthy 622hp but the torque was actually decreased to make the car more useable. The black series features a 20mm wider track, individually adjustable coilover suspension, an electronic locking rear diff and aerodynamics enhancements. Production was extremely limited and only 350 units were built globally, with only 15 in right hand drive configuration.

This example is the sole Diamond White example delivered to South-Africa. It has been enjoyed by one custodian it’s entire life and has an interesting story behind it. For 13 years it quietly sat in one of, if not the most impressive AMG collections in South-Africa. After 10 years of actively pursuing this vehicle we can finally say that it is ready to be enjoyed by its new custodian who we have no doubt will cherish, enjoy and preserve this piece of automotive history for decades to come.
