We are exceptionally well equipped
with a wide range of the latest
diagnostic equipment with highly trained staff. The name LPM is derived from the original company name, "The London and Paris Magneto Company",
which was established in 1909 by the current owner, Werner Vogler's great grandfather. Although from German descent, the company was situated in London before the Second World War. The company was passed from father to son. Just before the Second World War, Werner's grandfather went back to Germany where he fought in the war. He became a prisoner of war until 5 years after the end of the war. After being released and the company being confiscated, he immigrated to South Africa where he spent his career
in the motor trade with Gutbrod, and later Auto Union. He worked in the motor trade his entire life. The love was passed down to his son, working with Mercedes Benz for 20 years before retiring at BMW after another 10 years. The company name was resurrected in 1998 when Werner inherited his love for cars from
the previous generations and started the current company.

Diesel Particulate Filter Service

A DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) is a device fitted to the exhaust system of all modern diesel vehicles to reduce emissions and meet European emission standards.
It does this by trapping soot (dirt) from the exhaust gasses while letting the gasses flow through the system.

As with any type of filter a Particulate Filter needs to be cleaned regularly to function properly. With DPF’s this is done by a process known as Regeneration which involves a combination of a catalyst function in the vehicle system and burning the soot to gas at a very high temperature leaving behind an ash-like residue within the DPF. This is an automatic process taking place in the normal use of your vehicle, you may have noticed this in the form of a blast of white smoke form the exhaust on occasions.

If regeneration doesn’t function properly it leads to a build-up of soot affecting performance and fuel economy of your vehicle. If left unattended it will result in a blocked DPF which can ultimately cause expensive damage to other engine components.
All this is aggravated by our poor diesel fuel quality in South Africa.

A blocked or damaged DPF can be extremely costly to repair and will often cause your vehicle to go into a ā€œlimpā€ (loss of power) mode and reduce the performance substantially.
For regeneration to take place it requires the vehicle to be driven regularly at high speed maintaining 2500 RPM for approx. 15-30mins at least once a month. Please do not do this is your DPF warning light is already on. If the DPF is blocked beyond the capacity for regeneration or blocked due to Ash residue, you will do more harm to your engine
Even if the regeneration functions properly, the ash residue will build up in the DPF over time. For this reason a DPF is classified as a ā€œserviceable itemā€ by most vehicle manufacturers and is therefore not covered under warranty.

DPF systems therefore need to be maintained properly and on a regular basis.
A blocked DPF can either be repaired or replaced when the blockage is so extreme that repairing is not possible.
Some customers opt to have these filters removed entirely. In this case, the ECU (Wat is dit?) of the vehicle will need to be updated with new software to allow the vehicle to run efficiently. The engine needs to be optimized in order to minimize harmful gasses exiting the rear of your vehicle. The cost of this process will be considerably less than a replacement DPF.

DPF work is complex and should only be carried out by experienced professionals with the correct specialist equipment. All work on a DPF has to be completed with the appropriate recalibration or reset on the vehicle ECU. It is not possible to simply delete the DPF electronically or just remove the DPF unit without work on the ECU.

At LPM, you can trust our well experienced and fully qualified technicians to keep you on the road. All our technicians are fully trained and experienced in all aspects of DPF’s.

LPM will be able to make a proper diagnosis and recommended repair to keep you safely on the road.

Wheel Alignment and Balancing Services

Wheel alignment involves adjusting the angle of the four wheels so that they are aligned with each other, as per the car manufacturer's specifications and is an important part of a vehicles’ maintenance. Misaligned wheels can cause uneven and rapid tyre wear, worn suspension and will ultimately affect the handling and safety of your vehicle. It can also result in poor fuel economy as the vehicle faces resistance on the road surface making the car work much harder to drive.
The purpose of this adjustment is to maximise tyre life and ensure that the vehicle drives in a straight line.
Wheel alignment is different to but often confused with wheel balancing which ensures that the wheel weights are fitted correctly around the rim and tyre combination and ensures it is rotationally balanced.

What could cause wheel alignment problems?
• Normal wear and tear
• Hitting a pothole, pavement or similar object with your tire
• Being in a car accident
• Driving too quickly over speed bumps or uneven surfaces

What are the signs of poor wheel alignment?
• Either the inner or the outer edge of the tyres become unevenly worn or a ā€œfeatheringā€ effect becomes noticeable
• Uneven or rapid tyre wear
• Steering pulls to the right or left
• Steering wheel vibration
• Drifting or wandering off course when driving in a straight line and on a level road
• The spokes of the steering wheel appearing to be ā€˜off centre’ when driving on a straight and level road.

What should I do if suspect my vehicles’ wheels are misaligned?
If you suspect your alignment has been disturbed, you should have it checked immediately.
Else it should be checked every 10,000 kilometres or when tyres or steering components have been changed.

Workshop @ LPM Trading has a fully equipped workshop that allow us to do professional and accurate wheel alignment and balancing.
We supply tires from the best brands to bring you a full and comprehensive wheel and tire service.

As part of our one-stop service to our clients, we offer a full battery service.

We have partnered with a range of premium suppliers to ensure that we offer you only the best products. We stock affordable and reliable car batteries for all vehicle makes and sizes. Fitment is done on premises or as part of our emergency service where we will come to you and get you on the road again.

All our batteries carry the full guarantee of the supplier.

We also do full battery testing without damage to the battery. It’s important to have your battery checked twice a year.

Keeping your battery charged during lockdown.

It is not a good idea to let your vehicle idle. You need about 20 minutes of fast idling just to recharge the start-up battery usage. We recommend at least 30 min of running at 2000 rpm at minimum to charge the battery. Ideally this should be done every 14 days. If possible, minimise short drives as much as you can as it does not allow the battery to fully recharge.
Do not disconnect the battery as alarms will not be operational and it poses a risk of damage to electronics and key coding. Connect a smart charger to the vehicle and leave on for at least 24 hours. DO NOT use other chargers on modern vehicles as it can damage the electronics.

Please do not jump start your vehicle as you can cause damage to the engine computer.
Call us for step by step assistance.
