Six important things to check and replace in your car this rainy season.

1.Clean your car's windshield properly-having a clean windshield is important to help you drive safely so you have a better view of your surroundings. Have it cleaned on a regular basis to avoid build up of dirt and dust.

2. Inspect your windshield wipers- windshield wiper blades can last anywhere from 6 months to a year on average, check if they're already due for replacement.

3.Maintain your headlamps -Heavy downpours can affect your on-road visibility, which is why having well-maintained headlights is a must.Make sure you check your headlight bulbs for damages or if they need replacement. Always use the correct bulb specification on your headlights.

4.Check your car's battery- A car battery's lifespan could possibly be shortened due to the corrosion caused by humidity and potential droplets splashing about during the rainy season.

5.Assess the quality of your tires-vehicle traction is important, and maximum gripping power during the rainy season is achieved by well-maintained tires.

6. Always do a brake check-If you notice any squeaking or any grinding noises while braking, have your vehicle checked immediately as the brake pads might need a replacement.Do take note that braking in the rain might not work as quickly as it would on a dry day, therefore, it's best to drive slower than usual and set a further distance between cars.

Cylinder liners (also known as sleeves) are thin metal cylinder-shaped parts which are inserted into the engine block to form the inner wall of the cylinder. Alternatively, an engine can be 'sleeveless', where the cylinder walls are formed by the engine block with a wear-resistant coating, such as Nikasil or plasma-sprayed bores.

During use, the cylinder liner is subject to wear from the rubbing action of the piston rings and piston skirt. This wear is minimized by the thin oil film which coats the cylinder walls and also by a layer of glaze which naturally forms as the engine is run-in.

On some engines, the cylinder liner is replaceable, in case it becomes worn or damaged. On engines without replaceable sleeves, the cylinder can sometimes be repaired by boring out the existing liner to produce a new smooth and round surface (although the diameter of the cylinder is slightly increased). Another repair technique is 'sleeving' the cylinder— boring it and then installing a sleeve in the extra space created by the boring.

Most engines use 'dry liners', where the liner is surrounded by the engine block and does not make contact with the coolant. However, cylinders with 'wet liners' are used in some water-cooled engines, especially French designs. The wet liners are formed separately from the main casting so that liquid coolant is free to flow around their outsides. The advantage of wet liners is better cooling and a more even temperature distribution, however this design reduces the rigidity of the engine.

In a piston engine, the crankcase is the housing that surrounds the crankshaft. In most modern engines, the crankcase is integrated into the engine block.

Two-stroke engines typically use a crankcase-compression design, resulting in the fuel/air mixture passing through the crankcase before entering the cylinder(s). This design of the engine does not include an oil sump in the crankcase.

Four-stroke engines typically have an oil sump at the bottom of the crankcase and the majority of the engine's oil is held within the crankcase. The fuel/air mixture does not pass through the crankcase in a four-stroke engine, however a small amount of exhaust gasses often enter as "blow-by" from the combustion chamber.

The crankcase often forms the upper half of the main bearing journals (with the bearing caps forming the other half), although in some engines the crankcase completely surrounds the main bearing journals.

An open-crank engine has no crankcase. This design was used in early engines and remains in use in some large marine diesel engines.

The purpose of the car distributor is to send high voltage electricity from the ignition coil to the spark plugs in the right sequence to deliver a spark which ignites the fuel / air mixture to run the engine.

The distributor consists of several parts, including the rotor arm, ignition points or electronic ignition and distributor cap that connect to the spark plug cables. Each component works in unison to keep the car engine running smoothly.

More modern cars now contain an electronic ignition system with computer-controlled sensors that determine when electricity is sent through the spark plugs. However, older vehicles up to the mid-00s usually still have a distributor.

The distributor o-ring is a specifically sized o-ring that fits on the distributor's shaft to seal it with the engine. The o-ring simply seals the distributor housing with the engine to prevent oil leaks at the base of the distributor. The o-ring is put on to stop any oil pressure loss around the distributor body. If the distributor fits properly, this is not really a problem. Oil leaking around the body could help lubricate the cam and distributor gear better.

The engine front cylinder head cover is a metal housing that bolts on the front of the engine. It is also called the timing chain or timing gear cover. The cover encloses the timing chain and holds the crankshaft oil seal. A cylinder head cover is an important part of your vehicle’s engine that helps protect it from dirt and debris buildup. It consists of several metal plates that are held in place by nuts and bolts. The cylinder head cover may also have functional elements such as an oil filling connection and at least one oil separation device mounted on it.
