SENSATIONAL SESKS STUNS THE WRC IN SAUDI – FORD PUMA RALLY1 PACKS A PUNCH!
Ladies and gents of the rally world, hold onto your helmets! Latvian sensation Martins Sesks has thrown down the gauntlet in the Saudi Arabia Rally, proving once and for all that the Ford Puma Rally1 isn’t just in the fight – it’s leading the charge.
In a performance that’s got the paddock buzzing, Sesks has stormed to the top spot after the morning loop on those brutal gravel stages, edging out Hyundai hotshot Adrien Fourmaux by a razor-thin 1.3 seconds. The young Latvian, who’s been on fire all season, hit the ground running on Thursday, clocking the quickest time on the very first special stage and setting the tone for what could be a breakout weekend.
“I just clicked with that opening stage – it felt like we’d nailed the rhythm straight away,” Sesks grinned post-stage. “But man, it’s tricky out there! Some spots are insanely tough, with massive rocks lurking where the pace notes can’t warn you. You need a sprinkle of luck, that’s for sure – it’s like a high-stakes lottery in places.”
Right from the off, it’s crystal clear that starting order is king in Saudi. The early birds are paying the price as unwilling road-sweepers, churning up the loose gravel and exposing every hidden trap. Sesks, though? He’s reaping the rewards of his prime slot, slipping through unscathed while the leaders ahead carve out deep ruts and fling rocks sky-high.
“The starting position? It’s massive here,” he added. “Sure, sweeping can bite hard – I remember Greece, where we were first out and it was pure chaos. But now, with cars ahead loosening things up, those ruts are deepening and rocks are popping out everywhere. You’ve still got to stay sharp and pick your lines wisely.”
What makes this even sweeter? Sesks admits he didn’t see this blistering pace coming. “I knew the setup was solid, and I got the road position right, but to nail it this cleanly? Nah, that caught me off guard,” he confessed. “I dropped time on a few errors, but we’re in the groove now.”
For Ford fans – and let’s face it, rally purists everywhere – this is vindication. The Puma Rally1 is showing its claws, blending raw hybrid power with that signature handling magic to hang tough against the best. As the afternoon stages loom, Sesks sits pretty, but with Saudi’s unforgiving desert twists, anything can happen. Will he hold firm and bag his first WRC podium?
