🎙️ FUN FACT FRIDAY: PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN! 🏁

This week, we are shining the spotlight on Camden McLellan, a young man who is putting South African motocross on the global map!

Born in 2004, Camden has been a force to be reckoned with since his early days. In 2018, he made history by becoming the first South African rider ever to win a title in the European Motocross Championship, taking the victory in the EMX85 class. 🏆

But his career has just leveled up! 🚀 Camden is currently signed to the Monster Energy Triumph Racing team, playing a pivotal role in the legendary brand's return to the sport.

The Huge Moment: At the 2025 MXGP of Trentino, Camden achieved something massive. He won the first race in the MX2 class, marking Triumph's very first world championship-level race win since their comeback!

He has also proudly represented the Green and Gold, representing South Africa at the Motocross of Nations on five separate occasions (including the 2025 edition).

🎙️ FUN FACT FRIDAY: THE WORLD'S BIGGEST ENDURO PARTY! 💦

Ever wondered what it looks like when 3,000+ riders line up for a race? Welcome to the Gotland Grand National (GGN) in Sweden!

Held annually since 1984 on the island of Gotland, the GGN is recognized as the largest enduro competition in the world by sheer participation. It’s not just for the pros—it’s a true festival of the sport where amateurs, juniors, and women race alongside the elite in a massive 3-hour endurance battle.

The Track: Riders tackle a grueling 22-kilometer loop at the Tufta military shooting range. Because of the unique limestone terrain, the event is famous for its legendary "Mud Party" conditions. Think deep ruts, slippery rocks, and pure chaos!

How it compares: While the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo might be the "Hardest" race with very few finishers, the GGN is the "Biggest"—a massive logistical feat where thousands of riders share the same goal: just get to the finish line! 🏁

We are incredibly proud to announce the launch of the Appie’s Bikeshop Newspaper - Rider Profiles! 🏁🏍️

Our goal? To build up our biking community from the ground up. This newspaper is for EVERYONE. We’ll be featuring South African pro riders (expect to see some of your absolute favourites that you’d only dream of meeting!), veteran riders, and casual weekend warriors from all corners of the biking community.

Whether you're into Road biking, MotoX, Enduro, or Adventure bikes—this is for you. We want to encourage kids right from their school years, all the way through to the retired dirt gentlemen. 🤝

Port Elizabeth is buzzing with a die-hard biking community, but right now, that’s just not enough. We want to bring new people in, bring more energy, and shine a massive spotlight on what our city—and our country—can do. We want to show the world that no matter what we ride or where we come from, we are all united by the love of the sport. 🇿🇦✨

🚨 BROKEN SPOKE? IT’S A BIGGER DEAL THAN YOU THINK! 🚨

We’ve all heard that occasional "ting" sound when riding, or maybe you’ve noticed a loose ni**le while washing your bike. It’s easy to think, "It’s just one spoke, I'll fix it later."

But here is the reality: Your wheels rely on tension. The spokes work together as a team to share the load of the bike, the rider, and the impact of the road. When one goes missing, the others have to work overtime to pick up the slack.

Here is why riding with broken or missing spokes is dangerous:
⚠️ The Domino Effect: One broken spoke increases the load on its neighbors. If you don't fix it immediately, you will soon have two broken spokes... then three... then a complete wheel failure.
⚠️ Wheel Wobble & Instability: Missing tension causes the rim to warp (go out of true). This leads to a vibration that can make the bike handle unpredictably, especially in corners.
⚠️ Tire & Tube Damage: A broken spoke often has a sharp, jagged end. As the wheel flexes, that loose end can rub against the inside of your tire, eventually slicing the tube and causing a sudden flat—or a blowout at speed! 💥
⚠️ Catastrophic Failure: In a worst-case scenario, the uneven stress can cause the rim to crack or buckle completely while you are riding.

Don't risk a wreck! If you spot a broken spoke, stop riding and get it replaced. It’s a quick and affordable fix that saves you from buying a whole new wheel (or worse, a trip to the ER).
