*WEEKEND DATES AND OPENING TIMES OF DRIVERS LICENCE TESTING CENTRES AND MOTOR LICENCING OFFICES IN SEPTEMBER 2026*
Members of the public are advised that Drivers Licencing Testing Centres (DLTCs) offer drivers licencing-related services such as Bookings for Learners and Drivers Tests as well as Renewal of Drivers Licences, Applications for and Renewals of PrDPs, and Collection of Drivers Licence Cards. They do not offer Motor Vehicle Licencing services unless otherwise stated. Likewise Motor Licencing Offices only offer vehicle licencing-related services such as the Renewal of Vehicle Licence Discs, Change of Vehicle Ownership, etc., and do not offer drivers licencing-related transactions.
Documents required for the processing of Driver's Licence Renewal Applications in terms of the National Road Traffic Act, Act 93 of 1996 are:
• Identity Document/Smart Card and a copy thereof.
• The cost of R250 for issue of Drivers Licence (Please note that Provincial Offices only accept card payments).
• The cost of R90 for temporary Drivers Licence (Please note that Provincial Offices only accept card payments).
The following should be noted regarding Proof of Residence:
• Must not be older than 3 months.
• Must clearly state the physical address, e.g. a bank statement, store account, etc.
• If the applicant is residing with parents, a letter by the parent accompanied with the proof of residence is required.
An eye test certificate from an optometrist is preferred and must not be older than 3 months.
Information regarding the weekend openings of the following PROVINCIALLY-RUN offices is as follows:
EMPANGENI DLTC will operating on the weekend of 26-27 September 2026 from 07:30 to 13:30, and will be offering the following services:
• Renewal of drivers licences.
• Renewal of PrDP licences.
• Booking of learners and drivers licence tests.
• Collection of drivers licences.
NEWCASTLE DLTC will not be operating on weekends until further notice.
MKONDENI DLTC will be operating on Saturday, 19 September 2026 from 07:00 – 14:00 and Sunday, 20 September 2026 from 07:00 – 13:00. They will be offering the following services:
• Booking of Learners and Drivers licence tests.
• Drivers licence renewals and temporary licences.
• PRDP issues; (Kindly note that no new applications will be taking place.)
• Collection of drivers licences.
Priority will be given to students who are unable to book during weekdays and also to people who are employed full-time and are not able to make it on weekdays.
Proof will be required regarding the above; for students they can use their proof of registration/time table or a signed and stamped letter from their school.
For those employed full time the DLTC will only consider a letter from the company and must be signed and stamped as well.
PINETOWN/MARIANNHILL DLTC will be operating on the weekend of 26-27 September 2026 from 07:00 – 13:00, and will be offering the following services:
• Drivers and PrDP Licence renewals.
• Collection of Drivers Licences.
There will be no bookings of Learners and Driving Licences on the weekends.
It is recommended that those applicants with bad eyesight bring optometrist reports for the eye test.
ROSSBURGH DLTC will not be operating on weekends until further notice.
DURBAN Motor Licencing Office will not be operating on weekends until further notice.
PIETERMARITZBURG/HYSLOP ROAD Motor Licencing Office will not be operating on weekends until further notice.
PINETOWN Motor Licencing Office will not be operating on weekends until further notice.
UMBILO Motor Licencing Office will not be operating on weekends until further notice.
The following MUNICIPALLY-RUN offices will be open on weekends as follows:
BALLITO Motor Licencing Office will be operating on Saturdays, 12 and 26 September 2026 from 08h00 – 13h30 for the sale/renewal of motor vehicle licence discs only.
Payments are by card (Master or Visa cards only).
KWADUKUZA Motor Licencing Office will be open on Saturdays, 05 and 19 September 2026 2026 from 07h00 to 13h00.for all motor vehicle-related transactions.
Payments are by card (Master or Visa cards only).
MSUNDUZI MUNICIPALITY DLTC at the A.S. Chetty Building, 333 Church Street will be operating on all weekends in September 2026, 05-06, 12-13, 19-20, and 26-27 September 2026 from 08h00 to 12h30. The offices will be offering the following services to approximately 50 applicants per day:
• Driver’s license renewals;
• Temporary licence applications and issues;
• PrDP applications, extensions, and PrDP issues;
• Fingerprints results collections;
• Driver’s licence Card Collections,
• Eye Testing, Enquiries and Capturing, Licence Scans and Payments.
Payments are by card only (Master or Visa cards only).
UMHLANGA Motor Licencing Office will be operating on the weekends of 05-06 and 19-20 September 2026 from 07h30 – 12h30.
Payments are by card (Master or Visa cards only).
Services provided are all aspects of vehicle registration, deregistration, and renewal of new, used, and built-up motor vehicle licencing for all classes of motor vehicles.
VERULAM DLTC is open on the weekends of 05-06 and 19-20 September 2026 for all drivers’ licence-related transactions from 07h00 – 14h00.
Payments are by both cash and card at the DLTC.
Services provided are the application and issuing of learners and driver licences as well as the provision of renewal, duplicate and temporary licencing for the following driver licence codes: Codes A, B, EB, C, EC1 and PrDP.
VERULAM Motor Licencing Office will be open on the weekends of 05-06 and 19-20 September 2026 from 07h30 - 14h00.
Payments are by card only at the Motor Licencing Office.
Services provided are all aspects of vehicle registration, deregistration, and renewal of new, used, and built-up motor vehicle licencing for all classes of motor vehicles.
WINKLESPRUIT/AMANZIMTOTI DLTC is open on the weekends of 05-06 and 19-20 September 2026 for all drivers’ licence-related transactions from 07h00 – 14h00.
Payments are by both cash and card at the DLTC.
Services provided are the application and issuing of learners and driver licences as well as the provision of renewal, duplicate and temporary licencing for the following driver licence codes: Codes A, B, EB, C, EC1 and PrDP.
WINKLESPRUIT/KINGSBURGH SIZAKALA CENTRE Motor Licencing Office will be open on the weekends of 05-06 and 19-20 September 2026 from 07h30 - 14h00.
This office only accepts card payments.
Services provided are all aspects of vehicle registration, deregistration, and renewal of new, used, and built-up motor vehicle licencing for all classes of motor vehicles.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
• The Department only posts information on DLTCs and Motor Licencing Offices that have been received in writing. In view thereof, please do not request information about offices not included in this notification. If further information is received during the course of the month regarding other weekend openings, this notification will be updated.
• ALL OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED ON THURSDAY, 24 SEPTEMBER 2026 FOR THE HERITAGE DAY PUBLIC HOLIDAY.
