Government has announced plans to phase out support for assembling near-complete imported vehicle kits, pushing manufacturers towards deeper local production.

The aim: increase locally made content from around 38% to 60% by 2035, supporting South African jobs and component suppliers.

Announced at SA Auto Week, the shift excludes medium and heavy commercial vehicles. (reuters.com)
