This unprecedented rainfall we’ve received over the last week forced me to sit and think about a lot of things.
It is as if nature is forcing us to slow down, look around and realize we humans are not in control at all. It is showing us to think and do things in different ways, not the ways we were so used to – much the same as what the lockdown did almost 6 years ago.
Can you remember how we sat at home and promised ourselves once this forced isolation was over, how we would do things so differently?
And then, the further we moved away from the lifting of the “house arrest”, the more we fell into our old ways and patterns.
So, here we are, with the rain still coming down in buckets, rivers flooding and nature changing all around us. Maybe this is our second chance, a time to revisit those promises we made to ourselves that we will do things differently.
And that brought me to the way we as South Africans are looking at vehicle ownership – after all, I have been in the motor industry for the most part of my life, so how would I not relate things back to the motor industry?
Most South Africans, when considering the NAAMSA figures for 2025, drive Toyota.
The followers up are Suzuki, Volkswagen, Hyundai and Ford when looking at the top 5.
Out of this top 5 OEM’s, at least 3 are viewed as not being the most budget friendly options. Would this then suggest that most South Africans would rather buy more expensive cars as opposed to considering the budget car brands?
ICE vehicles are also leading vehicle sales by a long shot. So, the great hype about NEV’s and full electric vehicles doing so well in SA are maybe nothing more than a great story to be told?
The Hyundai range of vehicles, for instance offer, relatively speaking good value for money, a large dealer network across Southern Africa, they are fairly frugal and the big bonus point, these vehicles are nowhere to be seen on a high-jackers “shopping” list.
Would it thus not make sense, to strongly consider a Hyundai when looking at your next vehicle?
Would love to hear your comments.
