Full job description for Qualified Motor Mechanic position available.

A well-established workshop in the automotive industry situated in Northern Suburbs, Kraaifontein Area, Cape-Town is seeking a qualified and professional automotive mechanic to join their dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

> Performing routine servicing of light motor vehicles, SUVs, and 4x4s.
> Conducting general mechanical repairs.

> Inspecting and diagnosing vehicle faults, defects, and providing accurate reports.

> Conducting test drives to assess vehicle performance post-service.

> Maintaining responsibility for personal tools as well as workshop equipment.

> Ensuring all tools are cleaned and properly stored after use.

> Safely jacking up vehicles and adhering to safety protocols.

> Operating hoists and other lifting equipment.

> Utilizing hydraulic and power tools with care and in compliance with safety standards.

> Keeping the workshop clean and orderly before leaving each day.

> Ensuring that all tasks are performed in a safe and efficient manner, in line with company policies and safety procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

> Automotive Mechanic Trade Test Certification – This is mandatory.

> Please ensure a copy of your certification is included with your application.

Required Skills:

> Strong diagnostic skills with the ability to accurately assess vehicle issues.

> Comprehensive knowledge of automotive systems, tools, and procedures.

> Thorough understanding of safety protocols within a workshop environment.

> Effective problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in resolving mechanical issues.

> Proficiency in selecting and handling the appropriate tools for various mechanical tasks.

> Demonstrated troubleshooting expertise and attention to detail in detecting and addressing vehicle faults.

> Ability to handle precision equipment and material-handling tools effectively.

> Consistent adherence to company standards and procedures while performing duties.

> Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally across all levels of the organization.

Experience Required:

> A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience working as a vehicle mechanic.

> A valid driver’s license is essential.

Clients like badmouthing previous mechanics, dont fall for that trap coz tommorow you are the previous mechanic. To me its a red flag 🤪.

Our clients sometimes don't take our advices or suggestions they come with their own way of doing things and when it fails they blame the mechanic. I've seen many clients coming and telling us to change rings and we tell them straight that that we dont change rings, we do it our own way because we know what will happen tommorow. Once the process is not sucessful its suddenly all our fault, you are the mechanic you should have told us 🙆‍♀️

So now when they come to you they dont tell you the full story, they blame the mechanic and because you want the job you join in.

I started to have a peace of mind as an independent mechanic after learning to do or say the following⬇️

1. Dear Sir/Madam I’ve really tried hard to work on your car and it’s still showing me flames 🔥 i can’t even fall asleep at night, can you please take it to another mechanic, you don’t have to pay me since your car is not fixed.

2. I don’t have experience on such issue or car so I won’t be able to assist you.

3. After diagnosing and replacing a sensor i always advise the owner to drive the car for 2 to 3 days if the issue doesn’t come back then you can pay me, if the owner disappears like most of them do without giving feedback then it’s minors 1 disloyal client😉

4. Acting dumb and asking other mechanics questions😂

5. Swallowing my pride and posting cars I failed to fix, so that people can comment with their experience and i use it to repair and diagnose cars🔥😂

6. Making sure i tell people that I don’t know everything about cars🔥

7. Understanding that most clients that bad mouth other mechanics (my colleagues) are normally the problem and not their cars😂

8. I’ve also come to realize that most mechanics are not the problem when it comes to their yards being full of unfixed cars, i also have cars in my yard and owners don’t want to fetch them😂 either because of lack of funds/ parts or you told the owner you can’t fix it.

9. Not being greedy

10. Not competing or copying anyone

11. Taking my time to diagnose serious issues.

12. Not using clients money to diagnose cars, buy this, buy that until the problem is fixed🚫 if I don’t know I don’t know 🤷🏽‍♂️

13. If a client is in a hurry I normally don’t assist them, I don’t do quick jobs🤝

14. Q bond, Cable ties and Silicone in unnecessary areas not with me, I’m not a siliconator, go buy that seal and go buy that broken pipe🚫😂

15. Never giving up, sometimes it’s just a simple thing as Retiming the car or changing the water pump then you’re good to go.

16. Never relying on a client’s story when they tell me the history of their car and their previous mechanic, Clients lie sometimes to not be seen as negligent and reckless and mechanics also lie just to get paid and get rid of the car.
