For Sale : 1934 Chevrolet CD

The early history of this 1934 Chevrolet Coupe is lost in the analogue records of the Licensing Authority in what is Gauteng today. It is difficult to find pre-war cars that have been continuously registered since new, yet the Title Deed status of this vehicle is “used” with the earliest of three listed registrations as TDK (Alberton) and its sequence (3452) could date back to the 1930’s. So this may well be its original license number.

Extended ownership over long periods amongst a few owners, is the “holy grail” of collectible cars. Such vehicles seldom come to market and when they do, need no more than sympathetic restoration to keep them roadworthy. Interior and Body; Fuel, Cooling and Brake Systems; Instruments and Electrics; Suspension, Tyres and Wheels are relatively straightforward items for long term care.

The braking, cooling and fueling systems were restored over the past 10 years. The starter motor is converted to 12 volt while the dynamo remains at 6 volts for lighting and ignition. These are easily converted to 12 volt with an alternator for reliability. New tyres have been fitted, using modern large diameter space savers that have a distinctive period correct look.

Caution: This Chevrolet is 90+ years old and does not have the passenger and system safety characteristics of modern vehicles. It has the so-called “Dickie Seat” in the boot for two additional passengers. If driven regularly and serviced properly, it will maintain its reliability. It’s a fun car on the road and a drawcard on outruns, shows and Cars@Coffee meets.

For Sale 1965 Sunbeam Alpine 260 (Tiger)

This 1965 Sunbeam Alpine 260 is one of just 72 Tigers assembled at National Motor Assemblies in Alberton. These were the only Tigers assembled outside the UK and they are sought-after by collectors. They were imported as Semi-Knocked-Down (SKD) units in 6 batches of 12 cars each and were given the unique 948 chassis identification sequence.

This car returned to South Africa from Zimbabwe in the 1970’s, without its original identification. It was acquired as a project and restored over a period of 10 years, which was completed in 1990. Much information and many parts were acquired from Rootes Heritage. Unfortunately, it has not been possible to determine just which of the 72 SA Tigers this is, but its authenticity is not in doubt.

The Tiger is authentic in every detaiI, including verification of the Body and Chassis modifications by Jensen Motors to accommodate the Ford V8 Engine and Drivetrain. The car has its original seats and instruments. The braking, cooling and fueling systems have all been restored, a high capacity alternator has been fitted and the car wears a new set of tyres. The paintwork is good, but showing its age.

The Tiger conversion to accommodate the Ford 260 V8 was designed by Carroll Shelby, which adds to the heritage of this unique and special collector car. This is a “pocket rocket” that starts and drives well and is priced for further improvement.

Caution: The Sunbeam Tiger is a classic car and does not have the passenger and system safety characteristics of modern vehicles. It is reliable, can be driven regularly and will always attract attention at Shows and Car Meets.

Ford Sale : 1965 GT40 Developments

When John Botha was gifted an original spare body for the GT40 that was owned and raced in South Africa, he designed and built a replica rolling chassis for the body. This was as close as possible to GT40 # P/1024 specification, the car he had worked on for a number of years. This was a time when GT40 replicas were mainly kit cars and accurate builds were rare. He founded GT40 Developments and over a decade, built 34 GT40 replicas, almost all of which are owned overseas.

This GT40 is chassis #19 which was built in 1998 and finally commissioned as a Road Car in 2004. The car has been designed, built and owned by engineers. The body is by Tornado in the UK, it has fully adjustable suspension and an Edelbrock performance enhanced Ford 302 engine with Holley Twin Barrel downdraught carburettor. Power to the rear wheels is through an Audi Transmission and GILOTwin Plate Button Clutch (recently overhauled).

This GT40 has been serviced regularly. It has been driven to and from display at classic car shows and Cars@Coffee events. It’s fitted with a new set of tyres and new rear window. It comes complete with air conditioning and rear view camera to assist with maneuvering.

This GT40 is a car that can be enjoyed on Track Days, at Shows and Weekend Driveouts. It’s one of just a few early replica GT40’s built close to original specification which made them eligible for historic racing events.
