Gear oil is a lubricant made specifically for transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials in automobiles, trucks, and other machinery. It is of a high viscosity and usually contains organosulfur compounds. Some modern automatic transaxles (integrated transmission and differential) do not use a heavy oil at all but lubricate with the lower viscosity hydraulic fluid, which is available at pressure within the automatic transmission.

What does Engine Oil do for your engine?
Engine Oil has two primary purposes:
To lubricate the moving parts of your engine which minimizes friction and protect metallic surfaces from the proses known as corrosion.

What happens if you don’t put oil in your car?
If you were to try and drive your car with no Engine Oil inside of it, very quickly, that heat and friction would cause the engine to weld itself into a useless piece of metal. When this happens to a car engine, the engine seizes or “locks up.” Once an engine is locked up, there’s basically nothing that can be done to fix it.
