From day trips long and short to long trail riding and 4x4 driver training. Club chairman Craig Evans established the Koepel Club in 1980, and has been organising and facilitating racing events ever since. Recently we rebranded our club to be the Gauteng Off Road Adventures.
“Anyone can take part,” says Craig. “All you need is a car that can traverse some heavy terrain, and the ability to drive u
nder off-road conditions.”
“We make arrangements with farmers in the area, and work out a route. Drivers don’t know the route until the actual day of the race, which makes it even more interesting.
“The best part of it is that you don’t have to be a professional driver to take part in our races. We have participants as young as 6 years-old. Father and son teams would take part in cars that they spend weekends working on. It doesn’t have to be a four-wheel drive monster. We have people taking part on bikes, quads, and even in VW Beetles.
“We will be holding races three times a year in Magaliesburg. You can either take part as a driver a navigator, or even a marshal.”
