The Assessment Toolbox

The Assessment Toolbox We are a niche organisational design consultancy. We specialise in Psychometric assessments,Position

We founded the business on the principle that knowledge and experience of different industries and in-depth knowledge of all the positions that make up the fabric of an organisation, is critical to being able to offer an assessment and HR consulting service to paying clients. It was the founding partners’ commitment to this principle, as well as the importance they attach to providing a service th

at has integrity and that offers flexibility and options to clients, which motivated us to leave the corporate world and start The Assessment Toolbox in 2007. Since founding the business Wea van Heerden and Sally Satchel have grown The Assessment Toolbox into one of the biggest and most competitive independently owned assessment companies in South Africa. Our team now consists of 11 permanent staff across 2 offices, with a reliable and competent network of approximately 20 associates right across the country. This enables us to regularly work in all the major centres of South Africa, including neighbouring countries – thereby delivering a seamless service to our clients. Our dedication to delivering high quality work, coupled with passion for assessments have enabled us to do work with over 280 distinct clients in the last 8 years – these clients are from all sectors of the economy, from engineering and mining to financial services to motor industry. Since 2010, we have significantly expanded our footprint in the public sector. Many of the clients who were our first clients, are still with us and numerous of these relationships are in their 8th year. This proves our ability to be consistent, reliable and do work that meets and exceeds the needs and requirements of clients.

Perhaps Women’s Day should also encourage us to reflect on what we don't always see. The opportunities someone was given. The barriers they had to overcome. The potential that may have gone unnoticed.

In the workplace, every hiring decision, promotion, development opportunity, or leadership appointment shapes someone's future.

That's why the question isn't only: "Who is the best candidate?". It's also: "How are we deciding?"

At Assessment Toolbox, we believe that people decisions should be guided by evidence, fairness, and professional integrity.

Validated psychometric assessments strengthen human judgement by providing objective, scientifically grounded insight that helps organisations look beyond assumptions, first impressions, and unconscious bias.

When decisions are based on evidence rather than perception, we create workplaces where talent is recognised for what it truly is, and not for how confidently it's presented, how familiar it feels, or how closely it matches our expectations.

This Women's Day, we celebrate the women who continue to lead, innovate, challenge perspectives, and inspire those around them. We also celebrate the organisations that are committed to creating workplaces where every person has the opportunity to realise their potential, and develop it.

After all, the strongest workplaces aren't built by chance.

Happy Women's Day from all of us at Assessment Toolbox💜

There is something incredibly encouraging about spending a day surrounded by people who are genuinely excited about learning.

Saturday, 4th of July, our team had the pleasure of attending the Grads2Work Career Expo at SACAP, where our Psychometrist and Assessment Centre Coordinator, Cara Van Niekerk, and Intern Psychometrist, Tamara Govender, represented Assessment Toolbox as exhibitors.

💬Throughout the day, we had the opportunity to speak with students who were exploring their career options and wanting to better understand the many paths available within psychology and the world of work.
One of the highlights for us was seeing how engaged the students were. The presentations sparked meaningful discussions and notebooks filled with resonant takeaways for future career planning. It was a reminder that learning doesn’t stop in lecture halls, but rather that it grows through asking questions, listening to different perspectives and connecting with people who have walked the path before you.

🤝We are grateful to SACAP for creating a space where students and professionals could come together. To everyone who stopped by our stand, thank you for taking the time to chat with us. We enjoyed hearing about your goals and wish you every success as you continue your journey.

💭 We’d love to hear from you: What is one piece of career advice that has stayed with you over the years? Share in the comments … you never know who might need to hear it today.

What we observed in a room of over 60 professionals …

The Assessment Toolbox team had the opportunity to facilitate a team effectiveness and team building workshop, bringing together colleagues from across an organisation in a dynamic, large scale team building experience. What stands out the most in practical and engaging workshops is that effective team development includes creating space for people to reflect on how they work together in real time.

Workshops like these create an opportunity for teams to pause, step back from the day-to-day demands of work, and gain shared insight into how they collaborate, problem-solve, and support one another. When teams understand themselves and each other better, conversations shift and expectations become clearer.

Thank you to the group who engaged so openly and collaboratively in the process. Your willingness to participate and reflect made the experience meaningful for everyone in the room.

If your organisation is exploring ways to strengthen team effectiveness, collaboration, or communication, our team regularly shares insights and reflections from our work in this space.

What happens when a team truly understands both their own strengthsand each other’s?

Recently, Leticha Jones, with the support of Cara van Niekerk, at Assessment Toolbox, facilitated a strengths workshop with a team of 12 professionals, focused on enhancing synergy, cohesion and self-awareness within the workplace. Each team member explored their top five strengths, creating a foundation not only for individual insight, but for shared understanding across the team.

One of the most valuable shifts we observed was how the conversation moved from “my strengths” to “our strengths as a team.”
The session went further than individual results, as it became a space for:
- reflecting on personal strengths and how they show up at work
- recognising and appreciating the strengths of colleagues
- learning how strengths are relevant and can be applied in the workplace

Managers played an active role in the process, engaging deeply with their team members’ profiles and gaining clearer insight into how to support, develop and align their teams more effectively.

The outcome?

A team that left with a stronger sense of awareness, appreciation and practical ways to apply their strengths in how they work together. When strengths are understood, and intentionally applied, they benefit individuals and also transform how teams collaborate.

What’s one strength you bring into your tea and one you’ve learned to appreciate in others?

If this is something you’d like to explore further, whether for your team or your own development, you can find more information about our workshops and individual assessments on our website.

For some, this time is about Easter traditions and celebration.
For others, it is simply a chance to pause, spend time with people who matter, or take a well-earned break.

Wherever you find yourself, there is value in stepping away from the day-to-day, even briefly, to reset your energy and perspective.

At Assessment Toolbox, we are reminded that sustainable performance is not just about momentum but also about knowing when to pause.

Wishing you a restful, meaningful break - however you choose to spend it 🌿🙏🏻

Recognition matters, not only for what is achieved but for how it is achieved.

Following our recent Strategy Session, we took time to celebrate the individuals who consistently bring our values to life at Assessment Toolbox. Awards are more than a moment of acknowledgment. They reflect what we value as an organisation - collaboration, excellence, innovation, integrity, objectivity, and professionalism - and the behaviours, attitudes and contributions that shape how we work, collaborate, and grow.

This year, we recognised:
✨ Spotlight Award – Victoria Pollet
✨ Above and Beyond Award – Aimee Hewson
✨ Rising Star Award – Hope Makuwa
✨ Team Spirit Award – Leticha Jones
✨ Hall of Fame Award – Deepa Lalla & Aimee Hewson
✨ Rainmaker Award – Jessica Hattingh
✨ Ambassador Award – Andi Pama

Each of our colleagues represent something important, from consistency and collaboration, to growth, leadership and impact. Moments like these remind us that behind every report, every assessment, and every client interaction, are people who are deeply committed to doing meaningful work. Perhaps more importantly, they remind us that how we show up matters. Thank you to our ATB team for always going above and beyond to ensure that our clients receive the best service.

What does recognition look like in your organisation? What behaviours do you celebrate and what do they say about your culture?

At Assessment Toolbox, taking time to reflect and improve is an important part of how we work.

Last week, our team came together for the Annual Assessment Toolbox Strategy Session 2026, an opportunity for colleagues across our offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and East London to collaborate, reflect, and plan for the year ahead.

Each year, this session allows us to step back from our day-to-day work and ask important questions:
• How can we refine our processes?
• How can we strengthen the experience of the individuals and organisations we work with?
• How do we ensure our practices continue to reflect the professional standards set by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)?

During the session, the team divided into working groups focused on key areas of the organisation, including business development, client experience and report writing to name a few.

The conversations brought together new perspectives from recently joined team members alongside the experience of our senior psychometrists, creating space for thoughtful discussion and fresh ideas.

Together, we reflected on the past year, what worked well, what we learned, and where there are opportunities to grow. These insights are now shaping a number of initiatives and improvements that we look forward to implementing in the coming months.

Strategy sessions like these remind us that meaningful work happens through collaboration, reflection, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement.

We’re excited about what lies ahead for 2026! 🥳
