The Outbound Cyclone DBXL is a refined evolution of the popular Cyclone DB, specifically designed for couples who want a "gravel-roader" that balances rugged capability with a few more standard "creature comforts."
While many campers in this class require you to add water systems as extras, the DBXL positions itself as a more "turn-key" solution for those heading into the bushveld.
What Sets the DBXL Apart?
The "XL" designation largely points to the inclusion of a more comprehensive water and kitchen setup as standard compared to the base DB model:
• Integrated Water System: Unlike the standard DB where the water tank and pump are often optional, the DBXL comes standard with an 80L water tank (with protection jacket), a 5L gas geyser, and a dedicated geyser box.
• The Vanity Basin: A standout interior feature for a compact gravel-roader is the built-in vanity basin, making morning routines much easier when you aren't at a formal campsite.
• Enhanced Kitchen: It features a slide-out kitchen unit with a 2-plate gas stove (including a windshield), three drawers, and a dedicated pantry and pot hatch. It also includes a "coffee station" box—a small but highly appreciated touch for early mornings in the bush.
• Interior Layout: While the DB has a small dinette, the DBXL focuses on maximizing the sleeping area and storage, providing a full 2m long high-density foam mattress.
Performance & Off-Road Readiness
The Cyclone DBXL is technically a gravel-road camper, but its DNA is very close to a full off-roader:
• Chassis: It sits on a robust galvanized chassis with a solid axle.
• Tires: It comes with three 245/75 15" All-Terrain tires, providing excellent ground clearance and durability for corrugated South African roads.
• Electronics: It uses high-end Victron components (15Amp Smart Charger) that allow you to monitor battery levels via the Victron App—essential for peace of mind when camping remotely.
* Lightweight: At 780kg, it is incredibly easy to tow with most mid-sized SUVs or bakkies.
Durability: The 3mm aluminium body is resistant to the "bush-rash" often caused by thorns and tight tracks.
Standard Features: Getting a geyser and full water system standard is a significant value.
