Reflection for Human Rights Day
Today, as we commemorate Human Rights Day, we are reminded of the sacred truth that every person is created in the image of God and deserves dignity, justice, and freedom. The words of the prophet Micah guide us: “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)
Justice is not only a legal principle—it is a divine calling. Mercy is not only compassion—it is the recognition of our shared humanity. Humility is not weakness—it is the strength to see others as equals before God.
The Apostle Paul echoes this in Galatians 3:28: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” On this day, we affirm that no barrier of race, gender, or status should divide us. Human Rights Day is a reminder that the struggle for freedom and equality is not just political—it is spiritual.
May we commit ourselves anew to justice, mercy, and unity, so that the vision of God’s kingdom—where all are valued and free—becomes ever more real in our world.
