May's Auto Centre For all your automotive needs. Mays Garage

Way back in 1930 Dick May came to Himeville and opened a garage in what had been Davey Malcomes store.

Originally from Manchester, in England, he had immigrated to South Africa and went to work for Stanely Motors in Durban, until he chose to open his own business in Himeville. Here he settled down and married Leslie McLean, raising two sons, Graham and Denis. For many years he provided vehicle sales and servicing, and even a taxi for a while when there were not many cars on the primitive roads in the district. In those days one could not think of Himeville without linking it to Mays Garage, where Dick was always helpful and on hand to sort out any number of problems with a willing smile, even after normal working hours. He was a veritable king pin in the life of the village and surrounding farms. As technology and communications improved, however the humble garage became Himeville Toyota under the guidance of Dennis, with Graham running the workshop. One of South Africa’s most successful franchises the business flourished selling vehicles as far away as Namibia until Dennis’s untimely death in 2003. The old building which has been enlarged and modernised several times is now once more distinguished by the name of May’s Auto Centre. One cannot but welcome the return of a name with such historical connotations, and is a tribute to one of the villages true pioneers – long may it remain.

Weather volatility is a production challenge, not just an agricultural one.

For food production facilities, seasonal shifts and extreme conditions mean tighter margins, higher throughput demands, and zero room for equipment failure. When your plant is running at full capacity, lubrication isn’t just maintenance, it’s operational assurance.

During peak production periods, food-grade lubricants play a critical role in keeping your lines moving safely and efficiently:

Here’s why food-grade lubricants matter when weather puts production to the test:
✅ Maintains stable viscosity and lubrication film across wide temperature ranges and seasonal fluctuations
✅ Minimises wear and extends service intervals to help prevent unplanned downtime
✅ Delivers reliable protection for equipment operating under high loads and continuous production
✅ NSF H1 registered, supporting safe use and compliance in food processing environments

Keep your operations running smoothly, whatever the season:

❄️ Don’t Get Left Out in the Cold – Prep Your Vehicle for Winter ❄️

Imagine this: a freezing morning, ice on the windshield, and your car just won’t start. Don’t let winter catch you off guard. Whether you’re commuting to work or heading off on a holiday trip, being cold weather ready could save you time, money, and frustration.

Here’s your quick winter check-up:

• Check your battery – Cold drains power fast. Get yours tested.
• Top off antifreeze – Protect your engine down to -34°C.
• Switch to winter tyres – More grip means more control.
• Keep wipers fresh & fluid full – Clear vision is non-negotiable.
• Pack an emergency kit – Blanket, flashlight, shovel, snacks, and jumper cables.

💡 Pro tip: Run your car for a few minutes before driving, but never in a closed garage.
