The idea of Giro Diva Drives started with our very First Giro Dei Vigneti (lap of the vineyards.) It originated as a result of many conversations we had amongst friends in the Italian Classic Car world on the subject of the unique road trips we`ve experienced in Europe. Be it the commemorative 40thanniversary of the 275 Ferrari GTB/4 or the once in a life time Parade of the Daytona 365GTB/4`s on t

he Canal Grande in Venice in September of 2011, friends and like-minded petrolheads were in awe of the possibility to do something similar in South Africa. Something that would showcase our country`s natural beauty, spectacular landscapes, unique places to rest our heads and to experience and be introduced to the marvellous products our country have on offer. Sonja-Liezel had numerous requests to organise such a tour, focussed on driving our beloved cars in stunning scenery, sampling good food and wine, staying in comfortable yet cosy establishments, all in the company of like-minded enthusiasts. What better setting as our own winelands in the fairest Cape, we thought. The special events in Europe are usually of a very high standard with a big emphasis on the quality of accommodation, food and roads especially chosen for the maximum enjoyment of the cars. The Overberg and Cape winelands lend itself perfectly to hold its own to these standards. The most important aspect of the tour remained the camaraderie that will be born as a result of this sort of event. Thus, the Giro Dei Vigneti was created as a first of its kind to closely resemble those special events in Europe. Sonja-Liezel and her team worked tirelessly to put together an event that will surely be something special. Last but not least, the name Diva in the Giro Diva was chosen by Sonja-Liezel; probably thinking that only a diva will be able to control a group of men in a man’s world! This event might just be the precursor to greater things to come!
