Short-Term Contract? Rent the Truck. Long-Term Requirement? Invest in the Right Truck.
The South African market is unpredictable, making investment in waste collection and disposal assets a decision that requires careful consideration.
A new compactor can cost between R2 million and R2.8 million. For an operation with a contract of 18 months or less, committing this level of capital to an asset may not be the smartest choice.
Why invest millions in a truck you may no longer need when the contract ends?
At Zoller Trucks, we build trucks for both sale and rental. Renting gives you access to a premium waste collection vehicle without the long-term capital commitment. After 18 months of rental, we know that a premium product, such as a Zoller compactor fitted onto a Nissan UD chassis, retains its value at the highest level in the market.
For long-term operations, investing in quality makes sense. The difference between a R2.2 million compactor and a R2.8 million compactor is not simply the price. It is reflected in the steel grade and thickness, hydraulics, mechanical design, components, durability, performance and expected service life.
Over 3–5 years, the additional investment can become a relatively small part of the total operating cost. But for a short-term contract, renting may offer the flexibility and financial prudence you need.
The cheapest purchase price is not always the lowest cost.
