This Transport Month, we’re celebrating the trucks, drivers, fleet teams and businesses that keep South Africa moving.

An estimated 47 million tonnes of road freight moves along KZN’s N3/N11 corridor each year.

Behind every tonne is a vehicle that needs to stay safe, operational and on the road.

At Herman’s, we’re proud to play our part in keeping commercial vehicles moving when the unexpected happens.

A four-hectare site with capacity for around 120 trucks a month changes what's possible on a repair. There's space to run several structural jobs at once, room to hold insurance-approved parts and cabs on site, and enough throughput to get a fleet moving quickly even when several vehicles are off the road at once.

However, scale alone doesn't mean much without the standards behind it.

At Hermans, the two are built to work together: enough capacity to move fleets through, and enough discipline to get each one of those repairs right.

Getting a damaged truck to a workshop is often the first problem after an incident, especially for a fleet operator without a spare driver to spare. Hermans runs a daily collection and delivery service, so a vehicle can be brought in and returned without adding another logistics problem on top of the repair itself.

It's a small part of the overall job, but it's often what separates a fleet operator who feels supported from one left to sort out transport on their own.

Most workshops rely on the same team that did the repair to check the repair. Hermans adds a second layer: an independent consultant reviews completed jobs separately from the technicians who worked on them.

That external check catches things an internal review alone can miss, and it gives fleet operators and insurers a repair record that doesn't rest on our word alone.

If your current repairer's quality control stops with the people who did the work, it's worth asking who else has looked at it.

Wet roads, standing water, and hard braking through the winter months put more strain on a truck's alignment and body than most fleet operators notice at the time.

The wear doesn't always announce itself straight away. It shows up later, in uneven tyre wear or a vehicle that pulls slightly to one side.

Spring is a sensible point to check a fleet against what the past few months put it through, before minor wear turns into a bigger repair bill.

If it's been a while since your fleet had a proper post-season check, let's get one booked.

South Africa’s Fleet Safety Awards close on 3 September, recognising the operators, fleet managers and professional drivers who turn safety into measurable daily practice.

At Hermans, that same mindset continues after an incident. A safe return to the road depends on disciplined assessments, correct repair methods, careful documentation and quality checks, diligently repeated.

Standards like that don't stay in the workshop, but also show up on the road. See how we approach quality control and compliance at hermans.co.za

A repaired cab or body can look finished and still let water in at a seam that wasn't sealed properly. That kind of fault doesn't usually show up on the day the vehicle leaves. It shows up weeks later, after a few good downpours.

At Hermans, every repaired cab and body goes through shower testing before it's signed off. Water is directed at every seam and panel join to confirm the seal holds under real conditions, not just under a visual check.

Contact Hermans before your next fleet repair. We'll make sure it's done right.

A truck cab that looks repaired is not always one that has been repaired properly. After accident work, water ingress points can develop at any seam, seal, or joint.

The problems that follow (electrical faults, corrosion, cargo damage) often appear long after the vehicle has left the workshop and are rarely traced back to the original repair.

At Hermans, we use a dedicated shower system to test water-tightness after repairs, and we know that the repair isn't finished until it's watertight.

Hermans has been repairing commercial vehicles since 1972. The operation runs across four hectares, handles up to 120 trucks a month, and works on the panel of all major insurers.

That scale exists for a reason. Fleet operators and insurers need a repairer who can absorb volume without dropping the standard.
