🔧 Small detail. Big difference.

Never assume a spark plug is perfectly gapped just because it came out of the box.

Even pre-gapped plugs can experience minor electrode movement during shipping and handling. If the gap isn't correct for your engine, it can affect ignition performance and may contribute to misfires or unnecessary strain on the ignition system.

Before fitting your next set of plugs, check the manufacturer's specification and verify the gap with the correct feeler gauge.

The right plug is important.
The right gap matters too.

Building long-term relationships with KZN drivers means giving honest advice, even when it means telling you a part doesn’t need replacing yet.

At Dave’s Motor Spares, we’ve built our reputation on transparency.
If your brake pads still have 60% service life left, we’ll tell you to keep driving them.

Because we’d rather earn your trust for the next decade than make a quick sale today.
That’s what doing business the right way looks like. 🔧

The mark of quality is in the details.
When it comes to engines, technical precision matters.
Critical surfaces and tolerances need proper attention before an engine is put back into service. It’s the kind of detail that may not be obvious from the outside—but it matters when the goal is a confident repair.
Technical precision. Practical guidance. Trusted experience.

When a commercial workhorse goes down, daily revenue stops.

We helped a Durban transport operator source and install a replacement engine within 48 hours, getting their vehicle back on the route and earning again.

That’s what workhorse uptime looks like.

🚗 Vague steering or a steering wheel that doesn’t return to centre easily?
Don’t just adapt to it.

It could be a sign that your steering components are starting to wear.

Tie rod ends, rack boots and other steering components take a beating from
thousands of potholes, bumps and everyday driving.

When excessive play develops in a tie rod end, your wheel alignment can shift while driving and that can lead to uneven tyre wear and expensive replacements.

🔧 The earlier you catch steering wear, the better.

🚗 The wrong spark plug can damage your engine on the first turn.

When choosing spark plugs, matching the thread diameter and heat range isn't enough.

The thread reach must also match the exact engine specification.

Too short, and the plug may not sit correctly in the combustion chamber.

Too long, and the plug can extend too far into the cylinder, potentially coming into
contact with the piston or causing serious engine damage.

🔧 Always use the spark plug specified for your exact engine.

A small difference in reach can mean a very expensive mistake.

Save this post before your next spark plug replacement.
