The white Golf 1 is getting very close to primer after a lot of bodywork and final panel adjustments.

The Mk2 Toyota Supra is getting its engine bay painted before the engine goes in. The full colour change is coming in November, but for now, I want you guys to guess what engine is going in and what colour we’re changing it to.

And the limited edition Golf 1 is now painted and looking seriously good. After seam sealing the repaired areas, we got it into primer, laid down the basecoat and finished it off with clear.

Now it’s off for assembly, and it’ll be back with us next year for the full respray.

A lot happening in the workshop at the moment. Follow along and watch these cars come back to life.

Sometimes the cheapest quote isn’t actually the cheapest option.

A client originally received a R18,000 quote from us for a respray, but chose to have the job done elsewhere for R12,000. A few months later, the paint hasn’t cured properly and the entire car now needs to be stripped to metal and repainted.

The new repair is R28,000.

This is why I always say, don’t only compare the price, compare the process, the products, the preparation and the quality of the workmanship.

Saving R6,000 at the start can end up costing you far more in the long run.

Do it right the first time.

This is exactly why we do what we do.

Our client had been waiting since April to get his black Golf 1 into the workshop, and he secured his booking with a 10% deposit.

After seeing the finished car, he was honestly lost for words and extremely happy with the results.

For us, the best part of any restoration isn’t just seeing the finished car, it’s seeing the owner’s reaction when they finally get to see it completed.

A busy day at Uzzis Auto Art.

We had a very cool Honda Type R come through for a quote, and I was lucky enough to get a quick test drive. The owner also runs Torque Automotive, specialising in mechanical repairs.

Then it was back to the workshop to tackle the limited edition Golf 1. We started removing the damaged rear cradle, stripping away the old body filler and exposing the original welds so we can remove it properly and replace it with a new section.

Tomorrow we start fitting the new cradle. Follow along to see the progress.

Rust repair isn’t just about making the outside look good, it’s about getting the structure and fitment right.

On this limited edition Golf 1, we replaced the rusted rear valance with an OEM section. We removed the factory spot welds, carefully aligned the new panel, and replicated the factory weld points so everything sits exactly where it should.

The main goal was making sure the boot opens, closes and lines up properly with the body.

No shortcuts. No forcing panels into place. Just proper metalwork and attention to detail.

On this Golf, we sanded the fully cured paint from 1500 working our way up to 3000 grit to flatten the orange peel and remove minor defects.
Then comes the 3 stage polishing process, cutting, refining and finally jewelling the paint to bring out that deep, clear gloss. This is stage 1. We'll be showing you stage 2 and 3 so stay tuned.
