BSR Controls

BSR Controls The smallest stand-alone trigger in the world can fire the largest thyristor you would ever use! The biggest ladle crane to date using the EZYTrigger™ is 600T.

The principle of the EZYTrigger™ was developed and first employed by Bernhard Rudert in the mid-1970s for 25 – 100T cranes. At that time the main customer for the product was the South African electricity utility (Eskom) which required reliable speed control for installing and maintaining their turbines. The EZYTrigger™ was also then supplied to the German crane manufacturer, Demag. By the 80’s Wo

olf Cranes was using the units for 10 – 25T cranes and later for 180T ladle cranes. The units are used extensively in harsh and hazardous environments in the iron and steel industry, harbours and mines where the device had not only to stand up to high temperatures, but continuous high mains voltage spikes which were the cause of pulse tranformer breakdown. The scope of applications has grown and now encompasses industries across the power spectrum wherever thyristors are used.

Allocation, the dreaded word among OEMs, has once again become the norm with the worldwide shortage of silicon products.

Demand is outstripping supply and many of the leading semiconductor component manufacturers are currently quoting lead-times of up to 55 weeks. Single-source components are a particular cause for concern.

Amongst other factors causing shortages in the market is the fact that components are being used in vastly larger quantities by Smartphones, automobile electronics and the IoT industry.

The situation is only expected to ease towards 2020/21.

BSR Controls, which has consistently prided itself over the years on being able to meet customers requested delivery dates, has also been under stress since June 2018.

The smallest stand-alone trigger in the world can fire the largest thyristor you would ever use!

- Replaces pulse transformers and associated components
- No gate drive power supply needed
- A 12mA control signal is the only requirement for line voltages from 100 - 2 500Vac
- All modules have optically-isolated inputs (5KV, VDE0884)
- Capable of triggering amplifying-gate thyristors
- Units for triggering two thyristors for DC/AC control
- Units for triggering one thyristor via fibre-optic cable
- Will trigger under any load conditions
- Connects directly to the outputs of microcontrollers, microprocessors, CPLDs and FPGAs.

Typical applications include:
Controlled rectifiers and DC drives, AC controllers, AC Drives, Softstarters, Zero-cross switching in heaters and welders, Power factor correction, high power Solid State Relays, Electrostatic precipitators, HVDC electricity transmission, in fact, WHEREVER a thyristor is used.
