Impi Training Tip #1: Train Like You Race
One of the biggest mistakes riders make before a long enduro event is only doing short rides.
Events like Impi are as much about endurance and energy management as they are about riding skill. Experienced coaches recommend gradually increasing ride duration and training on terrain similar to the event. The closer your training matches race conditions, the better prepared you'll be.
Three simple things to focus on:
โ
Build ride time gradually
Increase your time on the bike over several weeks instead of trying to cram in one massive ride. Consistent training beats occasional hero sessions.
โ
Practice eating and drinking while riding
Don't wait until you're thirsty or exhausted. Endurance athletes are advised to fuel and hydrate regularly during long rides to maintain energy levels.
โ
Ride the terrain you'll face
Technical terrain, climbs, descents, loose rocks and ruts all require different skills and fitness. Training on similar terrain improves both confidence and efficiency.
Remember: the goal isn't to be the fastest rider in the first hour.
It's to still be riding strong when everyone else starts getting tired. ๐๐
