🚙Toyota Land Cruiser 4.2 Diesel - 600,000+ km and still going strong!

This Toyota Land Cruiser 4.2 Diesel came into our workshop with a misfire and lack of power. With over 600,000 km on the clock, it was time to inspect the diesel fuel system.

After thorough testing, we identified the cause and carried out a complete diesel injection pump and injector reconditioning. Every component was professionally reconditioned, calibrated, and bench tested to ensure it met specification before being reinstalled.

The legendary Toyota 1HZ engine is renowned for its reliability, but even the toughest engines need proper maintenance after hundreds of thousands of kilometres.

Friday Fun Fact – The End of an Era: Unit Injectors (Pumpe Düse)

Before modern common rail systems, many diesel engines used what’s known as a Unit Injector System — or Pumpe Düse (PD) as Volkswagen called it.

Each cylinder had its own self-contained injector pump, powered mechanically by the camshaft. That meant:
⚙️ High injection pressures — even without a high-pressure rail
⚙️ Simple, robust design — fewer external fuel lines
⚙️ Great reliability — but tricky (and expensive) to repair

Unit injectors were common in engines like:
🚗 VW 1.9 / 2.0 TDI (PD)
🚛 Mercedes-Benz commercial diesels
🚜 Older MAN, Scania, and Cummins applications

💡 However, as diesel technology evolved, common rail injection systems took over — offering:
✅ More precise fuel control
✅ Lower emissions
✅ Better performance and efficiency

Today, unit injectors are being phased out — but at JEG Diesel, we still service, test, and recondition these classic systems using Bosch-authorized test benches and calibration data.

Because even old-school diesel deserves modern expertise. 💪
