Did You Know?

Wheel alignment and wheel balancing are two different things, but they're often confused.

Wheel alignment is about correcting the angles of your wheels so they are positioned correctly in relation to your vehicle and the road.

Wheel balancing is about correcting the weight distribution of the wheel and tyre assembly so it can rotate smoothly.

So if your vehicle is pulling to one side, that's not necessarily a balancing problem. And if you're experiencing a vibration, alignment isn't automatically the answer either.

Automotive Tip: Hit a water puddle? Don't panic.

Heavy rain can leave standing water on the road, and hitting it at speed can cause your tyres to temporarily lose contact with the road surface. This is known as aquaplaning.

If you feel your vehicle start to aquaplane:

• Ease off the accelerator
• Keep the steering steady
• Avoid sudden braking or steering movements
• Allow the tyres to regain contact with the road

The best way to handle standing water is to avoid it where possible and reduce your speed when driving in heavy rain.

Wet roads can change quickly. Stay alert and give yourself time to react.

The story behind Point S Dullstroom goes back to 1994, when Dawie and Michelle's business opened its doors in Point-S Lydenburg, focusing on exhaust systems, repairs and trailer building.

Over the years, the business continued to grow, and in 2023, they expanded into Dullstroom, adding Point S to their offering while continuing to operate their Lydenburg shop.

Today, Dawie and Michelle and their team offer drivers in Point-S Dullstroom and the surrounding areas everything from tyres, suspension and shocks to brake pads, CV joints and vehicle accessories.

With farms, mines and mountains surrounding the area, the team also has the capability to work with trucks and agricultural implements. And for the off-road enthusiast, they offer Ironman 4x4 suspension, shocks and off-road accessories.

The answers are in!

Last week, we asked you to find all 3 problems hiding in this workshop scene. And some of you were very close!

Here’s what you were looking for:

LEVEL 1: Oil Leak
That puddle underneath the vehicle could indicate a fluid leak that needs attention.

LEVEL 2: Tyre Bulge
A bulge on the tyre sidewall can indicate damage to the tyre's internal structure and shouldn't be ignored.

LEVEL 3: Uneven Tyre Wear
This was the tricky one. Uneven tyre wear isn't always easy to spot and can be linked to issues such as tyre pressure, wheel alignment or suspension.

A few of you were also looking in some very interesting places for the third problem!
