The oil pickup is responsible for supplying engine oil from the sump to the oil pump. When it becomes blocked, oil flow is restricted, leading to low oil pressure and potentially catastrophic engine damage.

In this case, contamination and debris were found blocking the oil pickup, starving critical engine components of lubrication. This highlights the importance of thorough cleaning and inspection during any engine repair or rebuild.
