We are hiring!
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Chief Mechanic / Workshop Supervisor to take absolute control of our workshop floor.
This is not a desk job. We are looking for a "Working Foreman"—a diagnostic specialist who leads from the front, actively turns wrenches every day alongside the team, and can confidently manage and train our mechanics.
THE ROLE
You will be the absolute authority on the workshop floor. We have an office team that handles stock control, finance, and invoicing, meaning you get to focus purely on the cars, workflow efficiency, and quality control.
Your core responsibilities will include:
• Diagnostics: You will personally handle the triage and complex computer/mechanical diagnostics for incoming vehicles.
• On the Tools: You will be actively wrenching daily, pushing the difficult repairs through the shop and leading by example.
• Workflow Management: Once diagnosed, you will assign clear, bite-sized tasks to our junior and mid-level mechanics, keeping the bays moving and maximizing billable hours.
• Quality Control: You are the final set of eyes. No vehicle leaves the workshop without your sign-off.
• Culture & Training: Bring a standard of excellence to the floor. Break bad habits, reduce "hold-overs," and elevate the technical skills of our team through direct instruction in the bay.
• Customer Communication: Working alongside our local team, you will help explain complex issues and repairs to our loyal customer base.
The Ideal Candidate
• Fully Qualified: You hold a recognized trade qualification (Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent NZ qualification). Applicants holding a Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis will be highly regarded.
• Diagnostic Expert: You aren't just a parts fitter. You have high-level diagnostic skills (electrical, mechanical, and scan tool operation) and aren't afraid of complex modern vehicles.
• Leadership Material: You have patience, firmness, and a good sense of humor. Managing a team in the Pacific Islands requires a leader who can adapt to the local culture while strictly enforcing quality standards and efficiency.
• Lead by Doing: You don't just supervise from a distance. You are a mechanic first and foremost, actively turning wrenches to push jobs out the door and showing juniors exactly how it’s done.
