Na Hang is one of northern Vietnam’s most useful connectors on a motorcycle, linking Ba Be, Bao Lac, Bac Me, Ha Giang, Vu Linh and Tuyen Quang without forcing you to ride the same roads twice. It also works well as a slower stage after several big mountain days, with time for the reservoir and a boat trip.

Riding here is about variety rather than one famous pass: reservoir roads, forested valleys and karst scenery, with sections that can quickly turn narrow, broken or slick after rain. Do not plan by average speeds and leave margin for roadworks, landslides and trucks.

If you stop, prioritise a half day boat trip (confirm price, stops and return time). With extra time, ride up to Hong Thai (40 km+, 1,000 m+) for terraces and cooler air. Fill up and sort cash in Na Hang before heading onto smaller mountain roads.
