Compensator came loose, allowing the rotor to flop around eventually sheering off the teeth.

That might explain the erratic idle...I've heard of intake valve pins cracking, first I've seen it though.

Good afternoon!

Spring has sprung, things are really starting to pick up as expected and appreciated!

That said, just a couple friendly reminders:

1: Schwab's Garage has a company policy that's been in place for a couple years now which is fairly common with most independent shops. I do not install outside parts, parts are to be purchased through the shop, rarely are exceptions made. This includes tires. Tires through Schwab's Garage are always priced below retail and if you can get them or other parts at a better price from a reputable source, I will do my best to price match.

Do you bring your own steak to a steakhouse and expect them to cook it up for ya? ;)

2: I have 2 phones now. The decision was made to put a little separation between work and personal life. The Schwab's Garage number has NOT changed (763-443-6473). That said, the business line stays in the shop for the most part. Please, feel free to call or text at whatever time of day you like but if I'm not in the shop or I can't answer at that time, please leave a message. Calling over and over again does not get ya response any sooner. If I'm in the shop, I'll usually get back to ya shortly and worst case scenario is that I'd generally get back to ya within 24 hours.

3: As much as I like seeing you all and meeting new folks, if you plan on stopping by the shop, I ask that you schedule an appointment please. As most of ya know, I'm running just a 1 man shop here and as much as I appreciate the fact that you might be out cruising around and decide to stop by to talk about possible future work or to simply stop by to shoot the s**t, this can make scheduling a challenge. Hopefully you understand.

Even though Short Shots are s**tty pipes in regards to performance, I do love the sound! Ears might be ringing a bit though...

Bike in the shop for a fair amount/variety of work, one item on the list being brake fluid servicing.

I noticed that the front brake fluid reservoir lid says DOT5 but the rear reservoir says DOT4 so that of course was a big red flag. I knew somewhere around 2005 (the age of this bike) is when they switched from DOT5 to DOT4. Dug into it and 05 was in fact the first year of running DOT4 on the baggers.

So, I had to find out what was in there. Simple test. DOT4 mixes with water. DOT5 is hydrophobic meaning, it does not mix. As you can see in the pics, the fluid is separated from the water. DOT5 is what was in the brake system of this bike that was originally a DOT4 system and once you mix them, no matter how much you flush/bleed the system, you'll never get all of it out. I could actually see unmixed fluid suspended in the fluid that was in the reservoir.

After speaking with the customer, it all makes sense now. This bike has always had squishy brakes since he's owned it and even after a couple other shops worked on it to resolve the squishiness, they've continued to be squishy and the customer just came to accept that that's just the way it is...

Time to thoroughly flush everything out and rebuild some calipers and master cylinders, and to flush/bleed with the correct, uncontaminated DOT4 fluid. Should be a big difference in the end compared to what it was.

Looks straight to me! Run it!

Only a 0.110" bend in the rotor, you might feel a little pulsating but it shouldn't be too bad. ;)

Got a few more in short term storage ready, outside the shop too... spring has sprung.Helps keep me outta the bar. :)
