Salesman at Sir Walter Chevrolet shows a new Chevy LUV pickup truck to a potential buyer, 1 March 1981.

The LUV (Light Utility Vehicle) was a re-badged Isuzu and proved to be very successful for Chevrolet, but during the world recession of the early 1980s, even popular vehicles weren't selling in any real numbers. Rebates were introduced by many brands at the time to stimulate the market as new car sales in 1981 dropped by 29% over 1980. The $700 rebate seen here equates to about $2600 today.
