New day, new job. 1985 engine swap. The original engine is little tired and starting to burn oil so the customer has opted for replacement. Hard to beat that 3 year/unlimited mileage warranty they have on reman engines these days.

Update to the 1967 GMC, the engine is complete and the customer has picked it up. I wanted to update with some new pictures from the build. Edelbrock Performance intake manifold, valve covers, air cleaner and breathers as well as a set of headers for the truck completed the job. The customer is super thrilled with how it turned out and is currently breaking the motor in.

We are looking for a skilled Smog Technician to Diagnose and repair vehicles. You will be responsible for troubleshooting issues and fixing them aiming for maximum reliability and functionality. An excellent auto mechanic has good eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. They are well-versed in complex mechanical or electrical systems of vehicles and have excellent problem-solving abilities. They must be good communicators to provide advice to service writers.

Responsibilities:
Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately
Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade
Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.) aiming to vehicle functionality and longevity
Schedule future maintenance sessions and advise motorists on good vehicle use
Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks)
Provide accurate estimates (cost, time, effort) for a repair or maintenance job
Keep logs on work and issues
Maintain equipment and tools in good condition

Skills:
Proven experience as auto mechanic
Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles
Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods
Ability to handle various tools (e.g. pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g. lift)
Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protections against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals etc.
Excellent physical condition
High school diploma is preferred; Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship is preferred
Valid certification (e.g ASE) is a requirement
Valid California Smog license is a requirement
Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $25.00 to $30.00 /hour

I bet you have not seen one of these in a while, or possibly ever! This is a 1973 Excalibur Series II Phaeton. They were built on the Corvette chassis and used the 327ci Corvette engine from the time that made around 300hp. With a curb weight of 2100 pounds, 300hp and a 3.31 rear end this would run a 0-60 in about 6 seconds, which is not bad for this time period and is faster than the Corvette of the same year.

Since the company began in the early 60's until they closed in 1990, Excalibur only made 3500 cars. They were a very limited production run every year and were made in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The owner of this particular car has kept it very well maintained and detailed and working on it has been a charm.

I have no idea why my car stops returning from Palm Springs.AAA does good job getting me home and car to Ron's. Ron's diagnoses and fixes car and I'm back on the road again. Life is great. Thank you Ron's, Mike and John, etc.
