Since we started this thing we’ve been asking about $45 for a preventative maintenance service. We knew it wasn’t a money maker, we might make $10 if we were lucky, but hoped with good service customers would remember us when other work needed to be done. With the cost of things lately we’ve been losing money on these services and we just can’t continue with that. With that said we’ll be charging $25 labor, $4 shop supplies and the cost of the filter & oil. We only use synthetic oils which are running $21 to $30 for 5 quarts and Wix filters which run anywhere from $7 to $12. Hope everyone understands, it’s the cost of doing business these days.

Remember when brake lights were inexpensive incandescent bulbs? Sure at times they were a little tough to get to but dang GM (Ford isn’t any better) Now we have to replace the whole LED assembly costing way too much and disassemble half of the car to get to it. Another reason I’ll just keep driving the Neon!

Interesting one today. Towed in with no crank issue. Before jumping right to the starter we should check a few other things first. Found no power at the starter relay that should have power from the battery. Found the blown 40 amp fuse. Ok something is drawing way too much power. Checked the function of the relay, OK. Disconnected the signal wire at the starter and I was still showing ground at the relay terminal, problem! Followed the wire harness from the starter and felt this bundle stick a little when I pulled on it. Sure enough the signal wire shorted on a bracket next to the motor. Fixed the wire, added some wire loom and secure to the bracket so it won’t move. Replaced the fuse, reinstalled the relay and hooked the signal wire back up. Starting like a champ now!

Austin Joseph figured out how to program some new key fobs for a Dodge Durango using our Autel scanner. Needed the PIN from the dealer after proving ownership, a whole lot cheaper than paying them to reprogram! The scanner came in real handy this week bleeding the ABS system on a few cars too!

Interesting repair today. Customer requested brake pad and rotor replacement for their F150 and to replace the left front caliper because it was dragging. I pulled the right side first and was surprised because the pads look pretty new. Went on to the left side and found the outer pad worn off to the metal. The caliper didn’t appear to be seized and the slide pins were free, then I saw the problem. The brakes for this have a dedicated inboard and outboard pad. Whoever replaced the pads last time put both inboard pads on one side. The pad was stuck against the caliper and couldn’t release causing it to drag and wear out.

For those not aware: I have taken a new position with Piedmont EMS that will impact my time available for Quinn’s AutoMedic. Effective immediately we are going to have to shutdown for a while till I get my new job sorted out. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. I really do appreciate all our customers and this decision is not easy for us.

For the most part Honda engineers do a pretty good job in designing their cars to be worked on however, who ever came up with the drive belt tensioner location on the CR-V should be flogged repeatedly!!!

Preventive Maintenance! The wife let me know her van was due (overdue) for service. During the inspection I noticed transmission fluid on the air conditioning condenser, sure enough the transmission cooler had sprung a leak. No operating issues and no obvious leaks on the garage floor but given some more time it would have caused a major problem and could have left us on the side of the road!
I use the same Preventative Maintenance inspection procedures and 55 point inspection form on my vehicles as our customers, this is no “quick lube” place. For $45 (for most passenger vehicles) our service can’t be beat! We only use quality Wix oil filters and API SN Plus synthetic motor oils. We appreciate all the continued support!

Super excited that we’ve purchased a new bidirectional scanner! This greatly expands our ability to diagnose and repair vehicles! Advance trouble shooting, graphing, key programming, ABS, SRS diagnostics, hot functions, electric parking brakes, relearn and a whole bunch of other good stuff!
Some features are limited and vehicle specific but looks like we’ll cover quite a few makes and models!

Customer called with a no air conditioning complaint. She said the dealer told her she needed a new AC compressor. Luckily they told her it would be cheaper to buy the compressor and find someone else to install it, they wanted $600 plus to do the job.

We tested they system and found the blower motor resistor assembly had failed. Replaced the assembly for under $66 and the AC is functioning normally, nice and cold.
Never think twice about getting a second opinion on a repair!
