So much for vacation mode, huh? 😂🔧

Around 7:30 last night, after we had officially wrapped up work, we got a call from a couple stranded at O’Reilly’s in York with a flat tire. They were in town for a funeral and were supposed to be heading back home to Virginia the next morning… which is pretty hard to do with a flat tire. 😅

They had a tire plug kit and a Halo tire inflator, but just needed an extra set of hands to figure it all out, so we hopped in the truck and headed over to help. We got the tire plugged, aired back up, and safely holding air long enough to get them through until they can stop in at a shop and get a new tire put on. (Also… that Halo worked like a charm. Highly recommend! 💪🏻)

More than anything, we just had a really nice conversation with some genuinely kind people, and we were happy we could help make an already difficult trip a little less stressful for them. These are the moments that remind us how lucky we are to do what we do and be part of a community that continues to support and trust us. Sometimes it’s not just about fixing vehicles… it’s about showing up for people when they need a hand 🧡

From being supervised by the sweetest pup, Booth, while we knocked out a couple oil changes and checked out what this 1988 BMW needs to be summer-ready, to stopping for a couple cooked lobsters from Off the Boat Lobsters before replacing the starter for the client we helped out last night… I’d say our last working day before vacation was a success! 🦞🔧💪🏻

For now, let vacation mode begin! Just a reminder to our SCMR family that we’ll be out of town through June 1st visiting family down in Tennessee! We may be a little slower replying to messages and sending out estimates while we’re away, but we’ll still be checking in when we can. We’ll officially be back to work and wrenching on June 2nd, but until then, we hope you have a happy and safe Memorial Day week ahead! 🧡

How about a little Friday night excitement?! 😅

Around 9:30pm tonight, Blake got a call from a client who has stranded at a service plaza off the highway after their truck suddenly refused to start back up. From the symptoms, all signs were pointing toward the starter. The problem? Every parts store was already closed for the night. 😬

So, instead of this client needing a tow truck or leaving their vehicle overnight at a gas station, Blake hopped in the truck and headed out. By 10pm, he was underneath this pickup in the parking lot. The starter solenoid was clicking, but the starter motor itself wasn’t spinning. After tapping on the starter and doing some testing, Blake used an old-school mechanic trick to jump constant power directly to the starter motor terminal, which got the motor spinning again. From there, he had the client hit the push-start button while he jumped it, allowing the starter gear to finally catch the flywheel and bring the truck back to life. By 10:15pm, this client was on the road and headed safely home instead of waiting hours for a tow truck! 💪🏻🔧

Now before the mechanics in the comments come for us.. no, this is NOT a permanent repair! 😂 This was strictly a “let’s get you home safely tonight” kind of fix until the parts store opens tomorrow and we can replace the failed starter properly before we head out of town on vacation. Talk about perfect timing! 🙌🏻

Sometimes being a mobile mechanic means late nights in parking lots with a flashlight and a toolbox… and we wouldn’t have it any other way 🧡

Just a heads up to our Southern Charm family 🧡

We’ll be out of town May 25th through June 1st to head down to Tennessee to meet our brand new niece and celebrate Blake’s sister’s engagement! We’re incredibly excited, but that does mean we’ll be taking a short break from wrenching while we’re gone.

BUT… we decided to open up our books on Saturday to squeeze in some extra appointments before we head out 💪🏻🔧

We love a good "right place, right time" moment! 💪🏻

I was sitting in the Home Depot parking lot between jobs, just killing some time, when I noticed a Ford F150 with the hood up and a AAA truck beside it. I walked over to introduce myself and see if they needed an extra set of hands. Turns out the AAA driver already knew exactly who we were (small town Maine at its finest!) and even asked for some business cards while we checked things over.

After checking the fuses and relays, it became pretty clear that the culprit was the starter. I found some pretty significant corrosion that had broken down the connection between the solenoid and starter motor, causing the starter to fail. Luckily, the parts store right up the road had exactly what we needed in stock, so I made a quick parts run and swapped the starter right there in the parking lot to get them safely back on the road. There's nothing like turning a stressful situation into a quick fix and getting another family moving again! 🛻🔧

HAPPY SECOND BIRTHDAY TO SCMR! 🎉🧡🔧💪🏻

It’s kind of wild to look back at all of this and realize how far this little idea of ours has come. What started as a trailer, some tools, and a whole lot of “let’s just go for it” turned into something we’re so incredibly proud of.

This video is barely scratches the surface into the last couple of years.. But the best part of all of this has never just been the work.

The conversations in driveways, the laughs, the stories, the pets that come out to “supervise,” and the relationships that have grown along the way. You’ve welcomed us “into” your homes, trusted us with your vehicles, and supported us in ways we’ll never be able to fully put into words! None of this would exist without this community continuing to support, recommend, and trust us to show up when you need us.

And somewhere in the middle of all of this, we have been able to provide an incredible learning experience for Bentley. Seeing firsthand what it looks like to take a chance on something, to work hard, stay humble, and build something through community. That’s been one of the most meaningful parts of this entire journey for us. 🧡

Whether you’ve had us out for a job, shared our name, or are just following along to see how this guy from Tennessee handles the Maine winters.. we can’t possibly thank you enough. Jayme and I were looking through some of our recent reviews today and… man 🥹

This business has grown completely through word of mouth, people sharing our name, and trusting us enough to come right out to their homes to repair the vehicles that keep them moving. Every one of the 50+ five-star reviews (how did we get here so fast?!) came from someone right here in our community who trusted us to show up and help when they needed it. That’s not something we take lightly.

It’s never just about the repair for us. It’s the conversations, the people (and pets, of course) we meet, and being someone you can actually count on when something goes wrong.

We recently got called out to a park & ride for a couple whose van had broken down on the highway. They were fortunate enough to get a tow from someone who stopped to check on them, who happened to know our information to pass along to them. Talk about perfect timing! After taking a look, we found the issue.. a bad CV axle. We were able to order the part and get it replaced right there, getting them safely back on their way. 💪🔧

But here’s the part that stuck with us…

I mentioned that Jayme’s family has roots in Serbia, which is right near Romania, where this couple was from. As soon as they heard that, they lit right up and said to Jayme, “Serbian?!!” with the biggest smile.

From there, it didn’t matter that we didn’t speak the same language fluently. Jayme shared the few words she knew, and you could just feel the connection. It was one of those simple, human moments that sticks with you. 🧡

Moments like that remind us why we love what we do. It’s never just about the repair. It’s about the connection we make with others, showing up for them, wherever they are, and helping them get where they need to go. We were so happy to get them back on the road safely and be a small part of their journey. 🚗✨

Now that that little dusting of snow from Tuesday is gone, it’s (finally) that time of year again… springtime! 🎉

Scooters are coming back out of storage, lawn equipment is getting dusted off, and vehicles are finally getting a break from the worst of winter… which also means everything starts needing attention all at once.

Around this time, two years ago, we were running full speed ahead to get everything set and ready for our grand opening on April 15th. Tools, the trailer setup, learning how to use Square for estimates and invoicing (we never said we were super tech savvy, okay 😂), and really sorting out how to make this whole “mobile mechanic” thing actually work in our local communities.

If you’ve been with us from the start, you might remember when we first posted in the community pages just to gauge interest… and the response was so strong that we hustled quickly and opened our mobile doors within 4 short weeks 😳 It felt exciting… and honestly, a little terrifying too!

This past year has had its highs and its slower moments (that’s a true Maine winter for ya!), but one thing hasn’t changed… we still show up the same way we did on day one. For our people and our community, one driveway at a time.

And if you’ve supported us in any way along the way, even just by sharing our name or our posts, just know we appreciate you more than we can say. Thank you for allowing this small, family-run business to keep doing what we do best 🧡
