I decided that today was “Bring Your Teenager to Work Day,” and man, I’m so thankful I have that opportunity. 🧡

Bentley helped out the best way he could, mostly by handing over tools and asking a million questions (you know the ones… Are you almost done yet? When are we going to stop for lunch? How many more jobs do we have today? 😂).

But when we got to the last job of the day, replacing the starter on this Toyota Corolla, something really cool happened. Instead of just watching, Bentley was right there beside me while I explained how you know a starter needs to be replaced, the steps involved in changing one, and why those steps can look a little different depending on the vehicle. It was a chance to teach him not just what to do, but why.

I learned this trade from my dad when I was growing up, and now I get to pass those same lessons on to my own son. Different driveway. Different generation. Same love, intentionality, and care behind every lesson.

Will Bentley become a mechanic like me one day? Who knows. 🤷‍♂️ Maybe he will, maybe he won’t. That’s not really the point. The point is teaching patience, problem-solving, and pride in your work. Learning that if something’s broken, you don’t always throw it away… sometimes you roll up your sleeves and fix it. 💪🏻

That’s a big part of why we started Southern Charm Mobile Repair. We’re not a big chain or a corporate shop. We’re just a local family doing honest work, taking care of our neighbors, passing on what we’ve learned, and making some pretty special memories along the way.

Every family has something they pass down to the next generation. Around here, it just happens to come with dirty hands and a toolbox. 🧡🔧

Happy Fourth of July, y’all! 🇺🇸

Here’s hoping today is full of full bellies, sticky popsicle fingers, lawn chairs, fireworks, and making memories with the people you love… preferably without any missing finger casualties from the fireworks. 😂💥

One of our clients surprised us today with this cooler packed full of ice, waters, Gatorade, energy drinks, snacks, and candy to help us get through this hot summer day 🥹

Truthfully, they didn’t have to do that. They already trusted us with their vehicle, and that alone means the world to us. But they went one step further just to make sure we were taken care of, too. This is the kind of community we’re so incredibly grateful to be apart of. Neighbors looking out for neighbors. People taking care of one another, especially on days when the heat and humidity are no joke.

It’s easy to think a mobile mechanic is just someone who shows up, fixes a vehicle, and heads to the next job. But what we’ve found over the last couple of years is that this business has become so much more than that. We’ve met some of the kindest, most genuine people, and moments like this serve as one of the many reminders of why we love what we do.

To the wonderful client who put this together for us… thank you so very much. Your kindness truly meant everything to us today! To all of our SCMR family, you’ve all made us feel at home from the very beginning, and we’ll never take that for granted. We appreciate every single one of you. 🧡🔧

It’s another scorcher in Southern Maine today! 🥵☀️

While most folks are looking for shade and the A/C, we are on job #3 of 4, replacing front brake pads and rotors on this Kia Soul. Who knew bringing the garage directly to our clients would come with a complimentary sauna experience! 😂

Summer is one of the busiest times of year for road trips, beach days, and weekend adventures. Looks like Maine decided to borrow Tennessee’s weather until Independence Day! 🥵☀️

With heat indexes climbing as high as 115° in some areas, today is going to be a hot one. Blake grew up in Tennessee, so he’s no stranger to summer days like this… but even he’ll tell you that leaning over a hot engine or laying under a car on hot pavement all day is a different kind of heat. We’ll still be out making our rounds, just with a little extra appreciation for the truck’s A/C between jobs. 😂

If you’re heading out today, keep an eye on your vehicle. This type of heat can put extra strain on cooling systems, batteries, and older tires. If your temperature gauge starts creeping up or your vehicle starts acting a little out of the ordinary, don’t try to “just make it home.” Pull over somewhere safe, shut it down, and give us a call or text at 207-337-8102. We’ll come take a look and do our best to get you back up and running in no time! 💪🏻🔧

Well… that’s a new one. 😅🛞

We got a call this morning from a client over near Bog Road with a flat tire after hitting what they thought was a pothole. When we arrived, it didn’t take long to figure out that the “pothole” was actually a jagged section of tree sticking out into the roadway with a traffic cone laying on its side nearby. Unfortunately, the driver couldn’t see it in time, and that sharp edge sliced a hole right through the sidewall of the tire.

As much as we’d love to save every flat tire, sidewall damage like this is game over. Once the sidewall is cut, there’s no safe repair option. 😬 Thankfully, this client had a full-size spare on board, so we were able to get it swapped over quickly and safely, getting them back on the road without needing a tow truck or a trip to the tire shop first. 💪🏻

Sometimes the scariest vehicle problems end up having the simplest solutions. 😅🔧

We got a call from a client who had just purchased a new-to-them vehicle and discovered what appeared to be a pretty significant oil leak. As you can imagine, after buying a vehicle, finding oil underneath it is enough to make anyone worry they just made a very expensive mistake.

We headed out to take a look and started tracking down the source of the leak. The culprit? A hole in the oil filter! Thankfully, we didn’t find any other noticeable oil leaks, and everything pointed back to that damaged filter.

We replaced the oil filter, topped it off with a fresh oil change, and got this client back on the road with a whole lot more peace of mind. 💪🏻

Not every oil leak means bad news, and that’s exactly why proper diagnosis matters before assuming the worst.

And let’s be honest… spending the afternoon fixing cars with the ocean right across the street isn’t exactly the worst office view in the world. 🌊☀️ One of the perks of being a mobile mechanic that you definitely don’t get inside a traditional shop!

Tis the season for starters, apparently! 😅🔧

This Chevy Equinox got a brand new starter installed this week, making it the THIRD starter replacement we’ve done in just the last few days. We’re not sure what’s in the air lately, but these starters seem to be clocking out all at once. 😂

If your vehicle has been slow to crank, only clicks when you turn the key, or decides it only wants to start when it’s in the mood, don’t ignore it. Those little warning signs can turn into a no-start situation at the worst possible time.

If you’ve seen Blake out and about lately looking a little lopsided, it’s because he’s currently dealing with bicipital tendonitis in his right shoulder and has his arm in a sling for the next little while. The good news is that he should heal perfectly fine. The bad news is that telling a mechanic to “take it easy” is WAY easier said than done. 🥴😂

So for the next couple of weeks, you’ll probably see a lot more of both of us on jobs. The silver lining? Blake is left-handed, and luckily my two arms combined equal almost the strength of his right arm, so together we’re making it work. Thank goodness we make a good team! 😜

We’re grateful that most of what Blake needs right now is right-arm-rest, some medication for the inflammation, and a little patience. In the meantime, we’ll keep doing what we can, helping where we can, and making sure our clients stay on the road.

So much for vacation mode, huh? 😂🔧

Around 7:30 last night, after we had officially wrapped up work, we got a call from a couple stranded at O’Reilly’s in York with a flat tire. They were in town for a funeral and were supposed to be heading back home to Virginia the next morning… which is pretty hard to do with a flat tire. 😅

They had a tire plug kit and a Halo tire inflator, but just needed an extra set of hands to figure it all out, so we hopped in the truck and headed over to help. We got the tire plugged, aired back up, and safely holding air long enough to get them through until they can stop in at a shop and get a new tire put on. (Also… that Halo worked like a charm. Highly recommend! 💪🏻)

More than anything, we just had a really nice conversation with some genuinely kind people, and we were happy we could help make an already difficult trip a little less stressful for them. These are the moments that remind us how lucky we are to do what we do and be part of a community that continues to support and trust us. Sometimes it’s not just about fixing vehicles… it’s about showing up for people when they need a hand 🧡
