One little slip, and he'll regret those bare feet! 😬

Fall is here, good information.

The temperatures are dropping, and many riders are starting to put their motorcycles away for the season.

A friend brought up this topic the other day, and I thought it was worth discussing.

For those of us who ride year-round, one thing that changes this time of year isn't our motorcycles. It's the drivers around us.

As fewer motorcycles appear on the road, drivers become less accustomed to seeing them. Over the summer, motorcycles are everywhere. By fall, many motorists stop expecting us to be there. That can lead to more overlooked lane changes, missed checks at intersections, and those moments that make us wonder, "How did they not see me?"

Because of that, year-round riders often have to adjust their mindset. More space. More patience. More awareness. More planning for the unexpected.

The weather isn't the only thing changing. Driver expectations are changing too.

For my fellow year-round riders, have you noticed a difference in driver behavior once the seasonal riders disappear from the roads?

This proved that bad choices while riding can end up very badly.

I know it’s hard to believe today when it’s going to be almost 80° outside. But this weekend when the temperature drops and the evenings will get cold again, this is some great information for riders to think about!

With cooler temperatures creeping in, it's a good time to think about changing road conditions, and how they change the riding environment.

Cold tires may offer less traction, so give them time to gradually come up to operating temperature. Start your ride smoothly, avoid abrupt acceleration, braking or steering inputs, and give yourself extra time and space while you and your bike warm up.

And remember: cold weather can also mean wet, or frost-covered pavement can mean less available traction too.

Keep your inputs smooth, give yourself time and space, and keep using SEE — Search, Evaluate, Execute — to respond to the conditions around you.

Understanding a manual transmission might make the concept feel familiar, but it definitely isn't a prerequisite!

What does make a big difference? Knowing how to ride a bicycle.

Balance, steering, and being comfortable on two wheels give you a great foundation.

Clutch and throttle coordination? Those are skills you'll start developing in the Basic RiderCourse. Find a course near you below -
