Building a truck that fits all the needs of the community and doing it in 9-months!

What equipment did the department have to carry, want to carry….that drove the space needed and we configured the truck to those needs. In the past, some of this department’s apparatus (non-HME) were stock and the task became how do we make it work. Not this time.

“HME was great to work with. We came to them as said, we gotta get this on the truck, we need to get that on the truck and they offered up solutions for what we needed to have. From backboard storage, active shooter bags and cribbing, we made a home for it all,” said Equipment Operator (and "Senior Man") Steve Boetsma, Engine Company 1, Wyoming, MI Fire Department.

The fire apparatus Must Haves can vary as they are driven by so many factors... the department's attack strategy, training, fleet mgmt. needs, staffing, funding, etc.

“We did a needs assessment for this new engine and wanted a body style to match our other engines [including] a lower hosebed, a Waterous pump, and 750 gallons of water. said Chief VanTassell (Dennis).

📣Newport NC Recent Delivery (Push In Ceremony)
A push in ceremony is always an uplifting event and that was certainly the case on Friday, August 21, 2026 when the Newport FD took in their custom HME pumper.
The order was approved by the Mayor and City Council of Newport in July and the new engine was delivered on August 15th.
Kent Cummings and his team from Southeastern Specialty Vehicles have earned an excellent relationship with the Newport FD and certainly showed off their ability to move quickly to fulfill the immediate needs of Newport so they can maintain the high-level of public service they deliver day-in and day-out.
Congratulations Chief Murtagh (John) and James Ainsworth, Deputy Chief of Operations Newport (NC) Fire Department.

Delivering a better customer experience. Don't take our word for it - listen to one of our Dealer Principals. "If I am having an issue, I can call the engineering teams (many of which I know by name) to figure out the fix". If a running change is needed to meet customer expectations, they're open to it. You don't hear that from other manufacturers.
