It has been a tough week in downtown Grand Rapids for citizens and the Fire Department. The LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church, which was vacant for a prolonged period, burned late Wednesday night. The Grand Rapids Fire Department was on scene in about 2 minutes - post the 911 call, but the structure had clearly been involved for some time.

Captain Ryan Sparks told News 8 "that crews made an aggressive interior attack (visibility initially reported as zero) but the building presented unique challenges. We can’t have too many people on a fire like this,” he said. “It takes a lot of resources to put it out," Photos feature HME's recently delivered Engine 2.
