Twenty-five years after Sept. 11, 2001, we pause to remember the lives lost, honor the first responders and service members who answered the call, and recognize the resilience of a nation forever changed by that day.

The legacy of 9/11 lives not only in remembrance, but in the generations of Americans who chose service, sacrifice and commitment to something greater than themselves.

Today, we honor the fallen, those who responded in our nation’s darkest hours, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Observed the first Monday in September, Labor Day is an annual celebration of the of American workers. The holiday is rooted in the late nineteenth century, when labor activists pushed for a federal holiday to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being. Oregon declared it a holiday for workers in early 1887 and Massachusetts made it official a few months later. It did not become a federal holiday until 1894.

This photo, taken in 1917, show the executive board of the Local 45 Ladies Waist and White Workers. These were representatives of the varied Worcester companies that manufactured women's blouses (often called shirtwaists) and undergarments, nightshirts and linens (known as whites).
