For our AAA members,
We are getting into fall which we typically see a rise in battery failures. If you have AAA and call them for a jumpstart, they will try to sell you their battery. Please, do yourself a favor and DO NOT purchase their battery. We have run into multiple instances where a customer will come to us for a starting problem, the AAA battery will repeatedly fail testing with multiple testers, yet, according to their tester, the battery is not bad, just needs to be recharged, and they will not warranty their product. The next morning, the battery will not restart the vehicle and when they come out to jumpstart you (again) they will say it’s not their products fault. In the end, you will end up wasting your allotted AAA visits for the year on their battery and having to purchase another battery.
Also please keep in mind that they are not equipped to properly replace some batteries, as more and more vehicles require the new battery to be programmed to your vehicles computer so it will properly be charged by the vehicles charging system. Not doing so will shorten the battery’s life.

The catalytic converter thieves are out and back at it again. We replaced the stolen converters today on this truck, and we also installed a anti theft device onto it to keep them from being stolen again. The device is a stainless steel cable locking system that also wraps around the frame. If they’re gonna try to get these new cats, they’re gonna have to work extra hard at this one.

Unfortunately, we have yet another customer that’s been a victim to catalytic converter thieves, Please consider having an anti theft deterrent welded onto your vehicle if it’s one with access for easy removal. Give us a call, and let’s see if there’s something that can be done to make the thieves bypass your car.

As we posted before, Catalytic converter theft is well on the rise, it’s turning into a daily occurrence unfortunately.
You may want to speak with your car insurance agent/provider and discuss this possible scenario with them to find out just EXACTLY what would be covered and what wouldn’t be and what would be subject to “betterment”
A “betterment” is basically your insurance company telling you that they’re not going to pay for the replacement cost of something because, well, your parts that stolen were “used”.
So let’s say your catalytic converter is stolen from your car, and it, and whatever else the thieves took/ruined in the process, need to now be replaced. Well, this is where “betterment” comes into play and will no doubt leave you shaking your head.
If the insurance company says that they will factor in a 70% betterment, then basically, they’re telling you that they will deduct 70% of your replacement parts cost because, the part was “used”. If your estimate for repair was $4300.00, and the replacement parts cost say $3000.00 (yes, that much, catalytic converters can easily cost over $2000 alone) and the insurance company places a 70% betterment on your parts, that means they will only pay you $900 towards your $3000 parts bill. Their total reimbursement to you would be about, $2200, and then they will subtract your deductible, $750??, Now the insurance companies actual payout to you is $1450.00. For a $4300.00 repair bill.
Do yourself a favor, call your insurance agent, and ask some questions before you end up finding yourself in an unfortunate situation.

Please be aware of where you park your vehicles, thieves have been cutting out catalytic converters while vehicles, especially SUV and pickups, are parked. This Honda CRV’s converter was stolen last night from the public parking lot in Woburn center, behind the bowladrome. It was cut out with a cordless reciprocating saw, it probably took them under a minute to get.
