A new bill is being proposed which would remove several offences that a Maine police officer could lawfully pull you over for.

If the bill became law, Maine law enforcement could not stop motorists for minor things like a seat belt violation. expired registration, faulty plate lights, or any other of a handful of offenses.

*Drivers could of course still be ticketed for these offenses, however they couldn't be the primary reason for the stop. There would have to be a more serious offense the driver was exhibiting before the traffic stop could commence.

Tesla finds loophole to New Mexico law by launching dealership on tribal land

• Tesla opened its first facility in New Mexico this week in partnership with the Nambé Pueblo.

Electric car manufacturer Tesla opened up its first sales and service center in New Mexico this week thanks to a first-of-its-kind partnership with a tribal nation.

New Mexico has laws on the books that prohibit car makers from selling directly to customers without going through third-party dealerships. The law has prevented Tesla from establishing an official presence in the state over the years.

But now Tesla has found a way around that. The electric car maker partnered with the first nation of Nambé Pueblo to open its first facility inside a defunct casino on tribal land north of Santa Fe, where the state law does not apply.

The facility opened Thursday with tribal leaders and state lawmakers in attendance who praised the deal.

"This location will not only create permanent jobs, it is also part of a longterm relationship with Tesla. As the company is working with pueblo nambe to provide education and training opportunities for tribal members, as well as economic development," Nambé Pueblo Gov. Phillip Perez said during the opening, according to KRQE.

Democratic Sen. Martin Heinrich (D) said it was a step toward decarbonizing the country's transportation infrastructure and expanding access to electric vehicles.

"We need to double down on this progress and expand uncapped consumer incentives for electric vehicles, make it easier to manufacture electric vehicles in the United States, and fund the rapid electrification of the federal fleet of vehicles," Heinrich said in a statement.

Louisiana Man Arrested After Tesla's Camera Captures Him Allegedly Faking Being Hit by Car 👀

Arthur Bates Jr., 47, allegedly told authorities that a Tesla had backed into him around 4 p.m. in the parking lot of a busy gas station and stated collision caused him to fall down onto the pavement. According to the Slidell Police Department, Bates said that the driver fled the scene.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene after Bates complained of back, leg, and neck injuries, police said.

However, a short time later, officers were able to locate the Tesla and speak with the driver, who said that Bates had jumped behind his vehicle on purpose. After reviewing the Tesla's cameras, "it became apparent that Bates was lying and staged the entire event," the police department wrote.

Bates allegedly confessed to staging the incident, according to the Slidell police.

In the video released by the police department, Bates can be seen falling to the ground behind the car. The driver of the Tesla, who has not been identified, then exits the vehicle to speak with Bates.

After a few seconds, the driver retreats from view while Bates remains on the ground. Once back in his car, the driver reverses around Bates before driving away.

It's not clear if Bates remains in jail following his arrest, nor if he has entered a plea at this time. An attorney for Bates could not be immediately identified to comment on his behalf.
