Course Requirements:
Must be 15-17 years of age. Must be in the 8th grade or up
Must have a Temporary Instructional Permit from the Office
of Motor Vehicles. The state requires Parent/Legal Guardian attend a Parent Meeting before a minor can take Drivers Education. Temporary Instruction Permit Card (TIP):
The TIP Card is a photo ID card for Driver's Education. Students cannot attend class, test, or drive with an instructor without this card. Appointments to obtain the TIP can be made with the Office of Motor Vehicles website at www.expresslane.org. Documents Needed to Obtain the TIP:
Student's Birth Certificate, with the state seal. No photo copies. Student's Social
Parent/Guardian's ID, address will be used for the student's address on the TIP. Custody Documentation if any papers have been filed. If custody documents have been filed the person listed as the primary/domiciliary parent or legal guardian must be present. Parent Meeting:
Only the student's primary/domiciliary parent or legal guardian is required to attend before a student may attend a driver's education course. Children need not attend. If custody documents have been filed the person listed as the primary/domiciliary parent or legal guardian for the minor is to sign all documents for the child taking driver's education. Student's Temporary Instruction Permit Card (TIP)
An original birth certificate or state certified copy. Primary/domiciliary parent or legal guardian's Louisiana License or Louisiana ID. Address should be the same as what is on student's TIP. Payment (cash, check, or money order). At the Parent Meeting, one of our staff members will explain Stay In Your Lane Driving Academy's Policy and Procedures. They will also explain your role, as the Parents/Guardians of a minor who is becoming a licensed driver. Parent Meeting Dates are subject to change based on the volume of students enrolled.
30Hour Class:
Classroom Instructor will fully cover the information in the Driver's Education Handbook. Preparing students for the O.M.V. Knowledge Test. A Law Enforcement officer will take the students through a traffic stop, field sobriety test, and a simulated drunk driving with the drunk goggles. A representative from Operation Lifesaver will speak to the students about railroad dangers and safety. Students will have interactive instruction on vehicle maintenance, parking procedures, the proper use of a seat belt and mirrors. Students will be administered the O.M.V. Students can miss up to 8hours of class. Any classroom time missed must be made up before the test can be administered. If a student miss more they 8 hours they will have to repeat the entire class. The office will call the schedule theses dates. During the 8-Hour Behind the Wheel Training:
(All fees must be paid in full before this portion of the course can be done.) Instructors schedule drive times with the parent/guardian. Instructors drive one student at a time. State allows 120 days for this portion of the course to be completed. Scheduled drives can be up to 2hours at a time. No more than 4hours can be scheduled per day with a 20min break after the 1st 2hours. Students drive our vehicles that have passed state inspection. They are equipped with instructor mirrors, passenger break, cameras inside the vehicle, and GPS tracking. Driving Instructors review things students learned in class and behind the wheel. Students will drive in rural, city, highway and interstate roadways. Upon completion the office will review the student's file. A staff member will contact the parent or guardian to schedule a time for them and the student to pick up the Certificate of Completion when it is ready. Both the student and primary/domiciliary parent or legal guardian must be present. Required Documents are needed for verification purposes:
Student's Temporary Instruction Permit Card (TIP)
An original birth certificate or state certified copy. Students ages 15 and 16 will be issued the Certificate of Completion Packet. This packet is needed to obtain a Learner's Permit. Students must have the Learner's Permit for 180 days (6months) and be 16 years of age to take the Road Skills Test. Students ages 17 who qualify will also be offered time to schedule a pick up the Certificate of Completion Packet or a Road Skills Test. Switching from the TIP to a permit can be done at the Office of Motor Vehicles (appointment only) or at an authorized Tag, Title, and License Location. Fees may apply at either location. The Road Skills Test:
The Road Skills Test is a separate service offered at Stay In Your Lane Driving Academy. The test is not included in the course fees. Fee: $50 for Stay In Your Lane Driving Academy Students. Fee: $75 for applicants who did not attend Stay In Your Lane Driving Academy Course. This is a test on the driving skills of the person testing. The test is a 25-30 minute driving test in one of our state approved vehicles. Test is by appointment only at Delta Community College. We are not affiliated with the school.
