Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been working on a personal build that I’ve been looking forward to for some time. The goal is to take a junkyard LS 4.8/5.3 and completely revitalize it for a ’72 SS Chevelle that I’ve owned for several years.

With the help of our team at MidSouth Performance Group, we’ve completely stripped the engine down and put it through an extensive cleaning and inspection process to establish a solid foundation for the build.

The overall goal is to take this LS from a modest 325 horsepower in stock form and transform it into a reliable, boosted combination capable of producing 700+ horsepower. This is just the beginning, and we’re excited to document the process from teardown to the final product.

During our rebuild of one of our customers Subaru EJ255 turbo engine, we decided to go with a custom paint theme to better match their build theme. After we diagnosed the blown head gaskets and solved the issue with new Fel-Pro multilayer steel gaskets along with all new top end gaskets as well.

After previous inspection to resolve a low compression issue we ultimately made the guess of a blown headgasket or cracked ring… after tear down and diag, we in fact found not 1 but both headgaskets blown between the cylinder walls causing the issue. Stay tuned to see how this engine and paint job turns out!

We recently had the opportunity to visit one of our valued customers who, due to recent surgery, was unable to bring their vehicle to our shop. Consequently, we opted to conduct the necessary maintenance and suspension work at their residence. Our team successfully restored the suspension on a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass, which also included the installation of a new transmission, stall converter, along with front disc brakes. This comprehensive project involved upgrading the factory A-arms with tubular suspension components, fitting stiffer springs on both the front and rear axles, and replacing the ball joints and tie rods. The same customer has another vehicle that will be featured in upcoming posts and updates, so stay tuned for the build details that will follow.

This square-body Chevrolet truck has undergone significant development, with an even more compelling history behind it. To summarize, this vehicle represents the first collaborative project I undertook with my father, following a series of trades during my younger years, which ultimately led to the acquisition of a Small Block Chevrolet 350 engine from a Corvette. Subsequently, we constructed another Sbc 350 engine featuring vortex heads, a Crower racing camshaft, a high-rise Edelbrock air-gap intake manifold, and a 750 Holley carburetor. A brief video showcasing the final product is available, and as evident, this project embodies part of the inspiration and motivation driving our pursuit of creating show-stopping vehicles and performance enhancements.

Our team is considering the possibility of acquiring a wrecked BMW 325I with the intention of undertaking a spontaneous project. What would be the most viable option: converting it into a track car, a drift car, or refurbishing and reselling it? The vehicle has recently been flipped, exhibiting visible damage to the front section and minor dents along the sides. Notably, the engine is functioning flawlessly and is expected to perform even better with our custom enhancements.

We received a notification regarding a 2013 Subaru Impreza owner experiencing engine performance issues. Our team conducted an on-site visit, collecting the engine for further disassembly and diagnosis. Initial findings indicated low compression on the passenger bank, suggesting a potential blown head gasket. Following a comprehensive teardown, a detailed diagnosis will be provided in subsequent updates.

Following a comprehensive engine rebuild and minor transmission repair, which included replacing the front pump seal, transmission mount, and fluid, our team thoroughly refurbished the 2005 Chevy Tahoe's engine with new rings, bearings, gaskets, oil pump, cam retaining plate, lifters, and a single piston due to a cracked piston skirt on piston 6. Upon completion and reinstallment, the vehicle operated flawlessly, reflecting our commitment to achieving customer satisfaction and gratification.
